"Lifeline" for the poor
Vo Thi Cam Thuy (born in 2007, Phu Ninh commune) had just been admitted to the University of Economics (Da Nang University) when she was diagnosed with a serious illness, with estimated treatment costs exceeding 2 billion VND. Meanwhile, her parents are farmers supporting three children through their education. Thuy's mother, Le Thi Trang (born in 1974), suffers from postpartum depression after giving birth to her youngest child and is frequently ill. The family's only asset is their house, which has already been mortgaged to cover treatment costs.
Upon receiving the information, the Da Nang Hometown Association in Ho Chi Minh City mobilized the Ho Chi Minh City Association for the Support of Poor Patients to provide 30 million VND to help the family pay for their child's medical treatment.
Mr. Ma Thanh Tuan (born in 1987, Hoa Vang commune) suffers from end-stage kidney failure and a stroke that left him paralyzed on one side of his body, confined to bed. His wife does not have a stable job, doing odd jobs for anyone who can find work, resulting in an unstable income. Their son is of school age, and the family is classified as extremely disadvantaged.
To help Mr. Tuan's family through their difficult time, the Da Nang Hometown Association in Ho Chi Minh City has allocated 10 million VND from its fund to cover medical and living expenses.
Similarly, the family of Mr. Hoang Van Hung (born in 1987, Hoa Vang commune) is in difficult circumstances. Mr. Hung himself suffers from end-stage kidney failure, requiring dialysis three times a week, rendering him unable to work. Meanwhile, his wife works as a railway worker with an income of about 7 million VND per month, barely enough to cover the living and education expenses for their three young children.
Upon receiving information from the local community, the hometown association immediately provided 11 million VND to help Mr. Hung cover his treatment costs and prolong his life.
The case of Ms. Truong Thi Tam (born in 1984, Hoa Tien commune) is similar; her life is extremely difficult. The hometown association mobilized the Charitable Fund to donate 25 million VND, and called on members of the association to contribute an additional 11 million VND to help Ms. Tam continue her medical treatment.
Mr. Tran Hung Phong, Chairman of the Da Nang Hometown Association in Ho Chi Minh City, said that since the beginning of the year, the association has mobilized and connected people living far from home to support hundreds of disadvantaged and seriously ill individuals in their hometown, extending the journey of sharing love and connecting with their roots.

Empowering students
The leader of the Da Nang Hometown Association in Ho Chi Minh City stated that after the merger of Da Nang city and Quang Nam province, the association's support expanded to all communes and wards of the former Quang Nam province. Wherever there are people in need of assistance, the association's helping hand is always extended to assist those in need.
Besides helping the poor and needy, the hometown association pays special attention to promoting education and nurturing talent, especially caring for the education of orphaned and disadvantaged students.
At the beginning of the 2025-2026 school year, Mr. Ho Hoang Bao Vinh, Vice Chairman of the Da Nang Hometown Association in Ho Chi Minh City and Director of ADG Asia Joint Stock Company, sponsored 10 orphaned children and students from disadvantaged backgrounds in Hiep Duc commune.
Tran Thi Khanh Han (a 7th-grade student at Ly Thuong Kiet Primary and Secondary School) lost her father at a young age, her mother is disabled, and she lives with her elderly grandmother, facing very difficult circumstances. After being sponsored, Han receives 700,000 VND per month to cover her study and living expenses until she graduates from high school.
Pham Thi Kim Nhat (born in 2020), a student at Binh Minh Kindergarten (Hiep Duc commune), is an orphan whose father passed away. She lives with her mother, but her mother has a leg disability, making work difficult and resulting in an unstable income to support three young children of school age. Given this difficult situation, Mr. Vinh has decided to sponsor Nhat, committing to providing her with 700,000 VND per month until she graduates from high school.
To support disadvantaged students, every year, the Da Nang Hometown Association in Ho Chi Minh City, in coordination with the Charitable Foundation ( thuộc Vingroup Group), awards hundreds of scholarships to help them continue their education and focus on their studies.
To support teaching and learning in schools in mountainous areas, at the beginning of the 2025-2026 school year, the Da Nang Hometown Association in Ho Chi Minh City donated a clean water filtration system worth 75 million VND to Tay Giang High School.
Ms. Arâl Mai Tình, the school principal, shared: “This support not only contributes to improving the living conditions for students in the highlands but also demonstrates the close bond and shared joys and sorrows of the people of Da Nang. This is a great source of encouragement for the school to continue striving, overcoming difficulties, and improving the quality of teaching and learning.”
After more than 35 years of formation and development (1990 - 2025), the Da Nang Hometown Association in Ho Chi Minh City has made many important contributions in connecting and mobilizing people from Da Nang living far from home to remember their roots.
These charitable activities include: awarding scholarships to poor but studious students; building houses for the needy; supporting medical expenses for poor patients; organizing free flights and bus trips for disadvantaged people to return home for Tet; mobilizing support whenever their hometowns face natural disasters or epidemics, etc.
