Overview of key projects
The Can Tho - Ca Mau expressway project, spanning over 110 km, is part of the second phase of the North-South expressway in the East. The route passes through Can Tho, Kien Giang , and Ca Mau provinces with a total investment of over 27,500 billion VND from the state budget. Construction began in January 2023, and the project is nearing its technical opening date, expected on December 19th.

The project is managed by the My Thuan Project Management Board. To date, 95% of the construction work on the main route has been completed, and contractors are focusing their resources on the final items.
Efforts to exceed deadlines on the large construction site.
According to Mr. Tran Van Thi, Director of the My Thuan Project Management Board, the leadership has assigned personnel to be on duty at the construction site regularly to direct, supervise, and promptly resolve difficulties for contractors. The goal is to ensure the project is completed on schedule, connecting the entire North-South expressway from Lang Son to Ca Mau as directed by the Prime Minister.

Along the entire route, more than 1,500 machines and equipment and over 3,000 workers have been mobilized, working in "3 shifts, 4 teams" at more than 200 construction sites. The teams are focusing on completing the remaining items such as paving the road surface with asphalt concrete in some locations and installing traffic safety systems.

Overcoming challenges, meeting expectations.
Despite initial challenges such as insufficient sand for leveling, fluctuating material prices, and unfavorable weather conditions, the project has gradually overcome these obstacles thanks to the close guidance of the Government and the involvement of ministries, departments, and localities. The expressway, carrying the hopes of millions of people in the Southwestern region of Vietnam, is nearing completion.

Initially, contractors will prioritize completing five interchanges along the route to facilitate traffic flow. Specifically, the Can Tho - Hau Giang section will complete interchanges IC2, IC3, and IC5, and the Hau Giang - Ca Mau section will complete interchanges IC10 and IC12. The remaining interchanges will continue to be constructed and completed in the coming time.
Mr. Thi also shared that, once the project is completed, the saying "I heard Ca Mau is very far away" will no longer exist, affirming the role of this vital road in connecting and shortening distances.
