On December 3, Mr. Tran Van Lau - Secretary of Vinh Long Provincial Party Committee - said that the province has approved many large-scale projects and works of important significance to register for groundbreaking and inauguration to welcome the 14th National Congress of the Party, taking place on December 19.

According to Mr. Lau, 2 projects will be started on this occasion including: Dinh Khao Bridge Construction Investment Project , connecting the two banks of Co Chien River and Social Housing Project in Long Chau Ward's administrative and residential area. At the same time, it is expected that the Phu Thuan Industrial Park Infrastructure Construction Project will be inaugurated.

Leaders of Vinh Long province emphasized that the construction of Dinh Khao bridge to replace Dinh Khao ferry will shorten the time for transporting goods and passengers, creating momentum to promote local socio -economic development, and at the same time improve connectivity with provinces in the Mekong Delta region.

The Dinh Khao Bridge project has a total investment of more than VND 2,852 billion, implemented in the form of public-private partnership (PPP), with the Vinh Long Provincial Transport Project Management Board as the investor. The project is more than 4km long, of which the main bridge crossing the Co Chien River is designed with 4 lanes, maximum speed of 80km/h. The starting point intersects with Provincial Road 902 in Nhon Phu commune, adjacent to the National Highway 57 bypass; the end point connects with National Highway 57.

Currently, National Highway 57 is about 103 km long, connecting Vinh Long with neighboring provinces. However, Dinh Khao ferry crossing Co Chien River is a traffic bottleneck. Dinh Khao Bridge is expected to overcome the congestion, ensure connection with the national highway and expressway system, and shorten travel time between Vinh Long and the provinces in the region.

According to Lao Dong Newspaper reporters, Dinh Khao ferry terminal connecting to National Highway 57 carries thousands of vehicles and people every day. On holidays, Tet or when there is a technical problem, the ferry is often overloaded, causing serious traffic congestion.

Mr. Nguyen Tuan Kiet (living in Vinh Long province) said that not only does it affect travel, the congestion at the ferry terminal also leads to many other consequences. Freight vehicles face difficulties in transportation, waste time, etc. Therefore, for generations, people have longed for a bridge across the Co Chien River.

“Every holiday and Tet is the time when truck drivers pass through Cho Lach (formerly Ben Tre province) to transport flowers, ornamental plants and fruits to supply to other provinces and cities. However, having to wait for the ferry for more than an hour, with many vehicles and people, and no bridge, makes it difficult to transport goods,” said Mr. Kiet.
