Investigate and try 37 cases, 248 defendants related to Viet A Company

On the morning of December 3, at the 10th Session, Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Procuracy Nguyen Huy Tien presented a report on the implementation of a number of resolutions of the 14th and 15th National Assembly on thematic supervision and questioning.

According to Chief Prosecutor Nguyen Huy Tien, the People's Procuracy at all levels has actively and proactively coordinated with the Investigation Agency to verify and resolve 328 sources of information about crimes; practiced the right to prosecute and supervise the investigation of 211 cases/798 defendants.

Prosecuted and tried 141 cases/655 defendants for crimes related to urban planning, management and land use. Strengthened measures to ensure asset recovery; promoted dissemination of land laws.

The Supreme People's Procuracy issued a program to practice thrift and combat waste for the 2023-2025 period; streamlined the organizational structure; arranged and handled headquarters and assets after the merger; strengthened inspection and examination; accelerated the investigation, prosecution and trial of cases.

Of which, the investigation agency prosecuted 15,723 cases/33,449 defendants, the People's Procuracy resolved 12,950 cases/29,137 defendants, the Court resolved 13,738 cases/30,805 defendants; more than 54,531 billion VND was recovered.

In response to the request to urgently and thoroughly handle cases and matters in the management and use of resources for COVID-19 prevention and control, especially violations and cases related to Viet A Technology Joint Stock Company (Viet A Company), the Procuracy has coordinated to prosecute, investigate, prosecute and try 37 cases/248 defendants.

The Supreme People's Procuracy has presided over and coordinated with ministries and branches to issue Joint Circular No. 01/2022/TTLT dated February 18, 2022 on receiving and handling cases of sexual abuse of people under 18 years old.

At the same time, closely coordinate with the investigation agency to promptly collect evidence, protect and support child victims, and speed up the investigation process. The investigation agency has prosecuted 12,110 cases/12,483 defendants; the People's Procuracy has resolved 11,077 cases/12,342 defendants; tried 11,216 cases/12,416 defendants.

The entire sector has focused on strengthening the supervision of investigation agencies at all levels in reviewing, evaluating, classifying and resolving suspended cases. As a result, 38,456 sources of information on crimes and 26,424 cases/5,802 suspended defendants have been reviewed, classified and resolved.

Regarding some difficulties and problems, Director Nguyen Huy Tien said that some child sexual abuse cases lack direct evidence; the victims are young and suffer psychological trauma, making the investigation difficult.

Collecting documents on fraud and insurance evasion is still difficult due to the lack of cooperation of some businesses; workers are afraid of affecting their jobs so they are not bold enough to report.

The appraisal and valuation work of some cases and incidents is still prolonged, leading to some cases having to return their files for further investigation or temporarily suspend them.

The Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Procuracy requested the National Assembly to direct the review, amendment, supplementation or promulgation of legal documents in the fields of State management such as land, insurance, etc. to ensure strictness and consistency; and to strengthen the explanation and guidance for the unified application of laws.

It is recommended to consider increasing the regular expenditure norms for the 2026-2030 period and public investment capital to build headquarters systems, purchase equipment and working means; especially digital transformation funds for judicial agencies to meet requirements and tasks in the new situation.
