According to information from the Ho Chi Minh City Social Insurance agency on December 11th, the average cost per medical examination and treatment covered by health insurance in 2025 will reach 1,228,774 VND.
Specifically, inpatient treatment costs were 9,755,461 VND/visit, and outpatient costs were 589,965 VND/visit, an increase of 7.47% compared to the same period last year. The average treatment duration was 5.69 days, a decrease of 1.73% compared to 2024.
It is estimated that the total expenditure on medical examination and treatment covered by health insurance in Ho Chi Minh City in 2025 will be approximately 32,455 billion VND, reaching 106.2% of the target set by the Prime Minister and exceeding it by about 2,000 billion VND.
The Ho Chi Minh City Social Insurance agency stated that despite the large number of patients, it has consistently and promptly advanced funds to medical facilities in accordance with Article 32 of the Health Insurance Law, helping these units maintain professional operations and effectively serve the public.
Simultaneously, the city's Social Insurance agency is working closely with the Department of Health and hospitals to control and address the causes of increased medical examination and treatment costs.
The Ho Chi Minh City Social Insurance agency also advised the City People's Committee to issue documents to strengthen the management and control of health insurance costs in 2025.
The Social Insurance agency also reviews the list of facilities eligible to sign contracts for health insurance medical examination and treatment, allocates initial registration cards appropriately, and promptly resolves any issues.
The procurement process for medicines and medical supplies is being tightened to ensure compliance with the law, selecting safe and appropriate medicines and supplies, and guaranteeing that there are no shortages of medicines or that patients do not have to purchase them themselves within their entitled scope.
The Ho Chi Minh City Social Insurance agency noted that the above figures show that people's awareness of the role of health insurance is increasingly improving. From only participating when they are sick, people are now proactively participating for long-term protection.
Expanding benefits, increased reimbursement levels, and diverse technical services have contributed to strengthening public confidence in health insurance policies.
