Strengthening border cooperation and maintaining smooth customs clearance.

Immediately after the new administrative apparatus was established and put into operation on March 15, 2025, the Customs Sub-Department of Region VI proactively worked with the Provincial Party Committee, the Provincial People's Council, and the Provincial People's Committee of Lang Son to report on the work program and propose solutions to promote trade, attract investment, and facilitate import and export activities in the area.

In particular, to promote the flow of goods across the border, the Customs Department of Region VI has strengthened cooperation with Chinese Customs; exchanged 15 official letters, organized 3 talks; and sent representatives to attend talks between departments and agencies of Lang Son province, Vietnam, and the government of Guangxi province, China, to exchange information on anti-smuggling efforts, support each other in investigation and verification of information, and resolve difficulties and obstacles to facilitate import and export activities.

At the Coc Nam border gate customs office and the Huu Nghi international border gate customs office, initial agreements have been reached with the Lung Nghi and Huu Nghi Quan customs offices (China) to increase working hours on weekdays and extend weekend working hours; extending working hours until 9 PM Beijing time during peak periods, contributing to facilitating trade, minimizing congestion at border gates, and optimizing the supply chain.

During April, May, and June 2025, the peak harvest season for many agricultural products led to a significant increase in the volume of goods transported to border gates in Lang Son province. Customs Region VI proactively advised the leaders of the Lang Son Provincial People's Committee to hold online talks with the People's Government of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region (China). Both sides agreed to direct relevant agencies to implement coordinated measures to create the most favorable conditions for import and export activities, especially for fresh agricultural products.

Thanks to the proactive measures taken to facilitate trade early on and from afar with the Chinese authorities, customs clearance at border gates in the area has continued smoothly.

Thanks to timely coordination, customs clearance operations have remained stable. Specifically at Tan Thanh border gate, total import and export turnover in 2025 is projected to reach US$2,237.8 million, a 98.2% increase compared to 2024 – a figure that clearly demonstrates the effectiveness of enhanced cooperation and extended working hours.

Applying technology – enhancing efficiency through digital platforms.

Alongside border cooperation, the Customs Sub-Department of Region VI has identified the application of technology as key to creating a transparent and favorable business environment. Sub-Department Chief Nguyen Van Hoan stated that the unit is gradually integrating digital technology into all aspects of its operations – from internal management to assisting businesses with procedures.

Many new applications have been implemented, such as paperless meeting software, software for reviewing items with two different codes, and software for managing Certificates of Origin (C/O); at the same time, the use of artificial intelligence in managing records, declarations, and monitoring goods is being tested. This is an important step, laying the foundation for a smart customs model in the future.

Training of officials has been given strong emphasis. Nearly 400 civil servants participated in the "Digital Literacy" course and news writing skills training course in the first quarter of 2025. The training plan continues to focus on improving the capacity to apply artificial intelligence (AI), aiming to build a team that is both "politically sound and professionally competent": disciplined, honest, and technologically proficient.

The unit also conducted surveys on business satisfaction levels at five key border gates, thereby identifying strengths and areas for improvement, ensuring increasingly better service quality.

Thanks to synchronized solutions, in the first 11 months of 2025, the total import and export turnover through all types of customs at the Customs Sub-department of Region VI reached over 86.1 billion USD, an increase of 44.62% compared to 2024. Of this: Exports reached over 28.19 billion USD, an increase of 47.27%; imports reached 57.95 billion USD, an increase of 43.36%. Specifically, the turnover of declared goods at Customs Region VI reached 6.74 billion USD, an increase of 29.64%. Of this, exports reached 2.49 billion USD and imports reached over 4.25 billion USD.

The growth in trade turnover has helped the State budget revenue collection of the Customs Sub-Department Region VI reach nearly 14,000 billion VND, an increase of 188% compared to the same period in 2024 and far exceeding the assigned target. This figure also places the Customs Sub-Department Region VI in the top 10 units with the highest revenue collection in the entire sector. This is the highest revenue level ever, affirming the effectiveness of the new organizational model and the great efforts of all officials.

The impressive figures in 2025 reflect the rapid growth of the Customs Sub-Department of Region VI. The close collaboration with businesses, partnership with local authorities, and the decisive application of technology and development of human resources have contributed to creating a transparent and efficient customs clearance environment; promoting border trade; enhancing competitiveness; and making practical contributions to the socio-economic development of Lang Son province.
