Proactively harvest summer-autumn rice at the peak of the rainy season

On the morning of July 19, the Can Tho City Hydrometeorological Station issued a warning bulletin about thunderstorms, lightning, tornadoes, hail and localized heavy rain in the area. At the same time, it advised farmers to take advantage of the summer-autumn rice harvest when the rainy season is at its peak.

Thunderstorms are currently occurring in many communes and wards in Can Tho City. People need to be on guard against thunderstorms with lightning, localized heavy rain, hail, tornadoes and strong gusts of wind.

On the same day, the Southern Hydrometeorological Station warned that from noon on July 20 to 22, the East Sea will have southwest winds at level 5, sometimes level 6, gusting to level 7-8. The West Sea (Ca Mau - An Giang ) will have southwest winds at level 4-5.

The weather at sea is scattered showers and thunderstorms. During thunderstorms, beware of tornadoes and strong gusts of wind. The Ca Mau peninsula is experiencing high tides in the West Sea, with the highest peak at Song Doc station (0.79 m) and Xeo Ro station (0.64 m).

Can Tho City farmers are taking advantage of the summer-autumn rice harvest. Currently, Mekong Delta farmers have harvested 500,000 hectares of rice out of a total of nearly 1.5 million hectares of summer-autumn rice.

The Mekong Delta agriculture and environment sector recommends that farmers reinforce embankments, dams, and pump water to prevent flooding. In addition, farmers in Can Tho, An Giang, and Dong Thap are also advised to harvest summer-autumn rice when the weather is favorable to minimize damage.
