Speaking at the meeting, Chairman of Bac Lieu Provincial People's Committee Pham Van Thieu said that in 2024, although Bac Lieu province's economy has many positive changes, there are still many difficulties and challenges.
The province's task of achieving a GRDP growth target of 9% by 2025 is a big one, and the province needs contributions from the business community.
Along with calling for investment, Chairman of Bac Lieu Provincial People's Committee Pham Van Thieu committed that the province will provide the best support, the best incentives, and long-term companionship with businesses.
"In particular, the province's commitment is to say no to unofficial costs and consistently follow the motto "What is easy is for businesses, what is difficult is for state agencies to do". The success of your businesses is the development of Bac Lieu", Mr. Thieu emphasized.
Mr. Thieu requested directors and heads of provincial departments and branches to commit and resolve to shorten the time to handle administrative procedures, especially procedures related to investment, land, environment, business establishment, construction licensing, fire prevention and fighting, etc.
On this occasion, Bac Lieu called for investment in 224 projects, of which 27 were in the industrial sector; 41 were in the agricultural sector; 96 were in the trade, services and housing sector; 25 were in the culture, sports and tourism sector; 25 were in the infrastructure sector; and 10 were in the health, education and environment sectors.
Also at the meeting, Dr. Tran Du Lich said that Bac Lieu is still an agricultural province, accounting for a large proportion of 42%. Therefore, to maintain a stable growth rate, there must be a breakthrough in industrial development.
And to do this, it is necessary to build an open investment environment with many attractive incentive policies to attract investors. For example, according to Mr. Lich, Bac Lieu can propose policies to reduce corporate income tax, personal income tax... for investors coming to this locality to do business.
As a business with deep-processed shrimp products exported to European markets (with an office in District 1, Ho Chi Minh City), the leader of this unit said that doing business in the direction of applying deep processing technology often "doubles, triples" the cost compared to businesses exporting frozen products.
"Bac Lieu is one of the key provinces for high-tech shrimp farming. If we do not invest deeply in processing plants like China and Ecuador, it will take a long time for Vietnamese shrimp to catch up with the competition.
For a long time, businesses have been hesitant to expand capital and technology investments because they are afraid of local openness. If Bac Lieu province has committed, businesses will be more confident to invest and expand factories," he said.
