The President of the Football Association of Thailand - Ms. Nualphan Lamsam (Madam Pang) on behalf of the Football Association of Thailand sent a letter to the Vietnam Football Federation and President of the Vietnam Football Federation Tran Quoc Tuan to apologize for the incorrect display of the Vietnamese national flag in the draw ceremony for the 2025 Southeast Asian U19 Men's Futsal Championship.

In the letter, Madam Pang wrote: “On behalf of the Football Association of Thailand, I would like to express my deep regret and sincerest apologies for the unfortunate incident involving the misplacement of the Vietnamese National Flag during the Draw Ceremony for the 2025 AFF U19 Men’s Futsal Championship, to be held in Thailand on October 28, 2025.”

The President of the Football Association of Thailand said she was very sad about the incident because “this does not reflect the respect and appreciation that the Thai Federation has for all member federations and their national symbols. We are fully aware of the seriousness of this mistake and take full responsibility for the negligence that occurred.”

Madam Pang affirmed that the Football Association of Thailand has immediately taken corrective measures, reviewed and strengthened the event organization process, to ensure that such mistakes will never happen again.

“The Football Association of Thailand would like to sincerely apologize to the Vietnam Football Federation, the Southeast Asian Football Federation and all relevant parties for this incident.” She also expressed her hope to have the opportunity to directly apologize to VFF President Tran Quoc Tuan in the near future.

“The Football Association of Thailand and I personally deeply appreciate your continued understanding and support, and would like to reaffirm our firm commitment to maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and respect in all AFF events hosted by the Football Association of Thailand,” Madam Pang wrote in the letter.

Previously, the Vietnam Football Federation sent an official document to the Southeast Asian Football Federation (AFF) as well as the Football Association of Thailand to protest and request clarification of the incident of incorrectly displaying the Vietnamese national flag at the draw ceremony for the 2025 Southeast Asian U19 and U16 Futsal Championship.

Accordingly, during the draw, the Chinese flag was displayed instead of the Vietnamese flag on the Vietnam team's draw. In a document sent to the AFF, the VFF stated that this serious incident could have consequences affecting Vietnam's image and negatively impacting the solidarity of the ASEAN community.

The Vietnam Football Federation requested the Southeast Asian Football Federation to clarify the cause of the above incident and ensure strict measures to prevent similar mistakes from happening again in upcoming events.

VFF believes that AFF is also fully aware of the seriousness of this incident and will handle it with the highest sense of responsibility, caution and professionalism.
