Strange story of 2025 admissions: Must write an application to be admitted… even though you have enough points

(Dan Tri) - Despite having more than enough admission scores, many candidates still had to run around everywhere, shedding tears while filling out applications to resolve "system errors".

It sounds like a joke, but it's a cruel reality for many students this year during the college entrance exam season. After days of hard studying and sleepless nights, their scores are finally high enough to get them into their dream university.

However, the system removed their names from the list.

The pain of the "Application for Review of Admission"

Over the past few hours, many candidates have found themselves in a precarious situation, having scored enough points to be admitted but then being flagged as rejected by the system.

Four days ago, when universities announced their admission scores, many candidates cheered and celebrated, telling their families, relatives, friends, and neighbors: "I've been accepted into university!"

However, just a few days later, when the Ministry of Education and Training asked students to confirm their enrollment, many were shocked to see the words: "Failed".

"Shock!" - that's the feeling of Nguyen Tan ( Quang Ninh ) and many other candidates over the past 24 hours, since the Ministry of Education and Training opened the results lookup portal. Confusion and fear have taken over the minds of these students, the graduating class of 2007 who have endured countless hardships to finally reap the rewards.

Despite meeting the admission criteria, the failure to get accepted shattered the budding joy of success. The family lost sleep and was restless, because it wasn't the students' fault, yet they had to bear the consequences.

“I was worried and devastated, and my whole family went around asking everywhere for a solution. I also called the school dozens of times, but the line was either busy or no one answered,” Duy Duc ( Dong Thap ) recounted.

When students who had enough points but were unfairly rejected came to the school seeking help, they received a seemingly simple request, yet one that felt like salt in their wounds: "Submit an appeal for reconsideration."

This was the request from most schools, and among them, a pre-written letter from one university, with its emotionless wording, pleaded for help.

During the 2025 university admissions process, I found myself suitable and my test results met the school's requirements. Now, after receiving the official results, which are not as expected, I sincerely hope the school will reconsider my admission and support me in enrolling.”

I respectfully request that the University's Admissions Council consider and approve my application for admission and enrollment as a student of the university.

I certify that the information and data regarding my grades are completely accurate, and I will fully comply with all relevant school regulations .

It's hard to describe how they felt at that moment. Years of hard studying, achieving the required exam scores, thinking they had finally reached their dream of attending university, only for everything to be overturned by a mistake they didn't commit. Even more painful was having to humbly write letters, begging for what rightfully belonged to them.

"It's not your fault."

Dr. Phan Anh, an education expert, affirmed this. According to him, this is a fault of the system, of the admissions process. The candidates are not at fault, so why should they be disadvantaged?

Dr. Phan Anh emphasized that universities need to review the applications of candidates. If students have enough points but are rejected by the system, the university must proactively contact them to resolve the issue, instead of forcing them to explain. Since the fault is not theirs, the pain and trauma should not be inflicted upon them and their families again.

"If you cannot compensate for the emotional harm inflicted on the children and their families, at least do not cause them further pain and anxiety," Mr. Phan Anh said.

This is the time for universities to demonstrate their understanding and responsibility, not only as educational institutions, but also as partners in shaping the future of young generations. Let's not allow silent applications to become a haunting obsession, and let the tears shed on paper become a sad story that will never be forgotten.

This letter is not just an administrative formality. It is a symbol of helplessness, evidence that these students are paying the price for the mistakes of others. It has turned pride in academic achievement into shame, and the aspiration to become university students into a plea.
