Can I withdraw money from a bank using a photo of my ID card/citizen identification card?

VTC NewsVTC News03/12/2024

Explaining the reason for this regulation, officials from several banks said that using the citizen identification card allows for scanning the customer's identification number, while a photocopy cannot be used to retrieve personal information or the identification number.

In fact, there have been cases where people have used someone else's ID card/citizen identification card and superimposed their own photo onto it to conduct banking transactions. Therefore, banks require customers to use their original ID card/citizen identification card to verify their information and personal identification number.

A notarized photocopy of your National Identity Card/Citizen Identification Card (CMND/CCCD) is not valid for bank transactions.

Can I get an ATM card if I only have a notarized copy of my ID card/citizen identification card?

A notarized photocopy of your ID card (CMND/CCCD) usually has a specified validity period and is only valid for use within that period. Some banks may require the original for verification, so customers cannot obtain an ATM card with a photocopy. However, some banks may accept a photocopy of the ID card, provided the copy is certified with a red seal by an authorized agency and is still valid. Even so, customers will still need to present the original ID card for verification when collecting their ATM card.

You should contact the customer service department of the specific bank beforehand to inquire about the procedures, so that you can prepare and avoid wasting time going to the branches.
