On August 14th, a workshop on the Hoi An - Dien Ban - Duy Xuyen tourism development linkage program, themed "Green tourism destination - rural villages and traditional crafts," was held at the Triem Tay garden ecological area (Dien Phuong ward, Dien Ban town).

Many destinations, but a lack of unique experiences.

In this area, there have long been tourist tours, the most prominent of which is the tour from Hoi An to the My Son Sanctuary and back, but they often overlook the "midpoint" of Dien Ban.

In reality, tourists visiting Hoi An often only venture to the suburban areas or My Son, overlooking many community villages in Duy Xuyen and Dien Ban districts such as Tra Nhieu, My Son, Triem Tay, Cam Phu, etc.

This situation leads to overcrowding during certain peak hours in Hoi An Old Town, while many nearby destinations in Duy Xuyen or Dien Ban are anxiously waiting for tourists.

According to travel agencies, the current limitation of community-based destinations in Dien Ban and Duy Xuyen is that most experiences are similar and lack distinctiveness.

Mr. Pham Vu Dung, Director of Hoa Hong Tourism and Service Company Limited, believes that every destination has potential, but the important thing is to design unique products so that they are accepted by travel businesses. This depends heavily on creativity, so localities need to encourage and create a favorable environment for startups.

Mr. Le Sy Quyen, Director of Asia Pioneer Travel, believes that designing the tourist experience is extremely important. Localities should have a specific roadmap and strategy to be ready to provide diverse experiences linked to local values for tourists if they want to attract high-end visitors, instead of just a few simple experiences and a few souvenirs as is currently the case. For example, the experience of visiting a market is crucial because it reflects the authentic and vibrant life of a rural village, which most tourists want to explore .

The "bottlenecks" that need to be resolved.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Huyen, National Coordinator of the Small Projects Grant Program of the Global Environment Fund (UNDP), believes that there are too many things to develop tourism, but it's unclear where to start and who will be responsible for each task.

Typically, tourism businesses only begin operating when a tourism product is 80% complete. However, achieving this 80% completion from zero is a significant challenge and requires considerable effort. This necessitates greater collaboration and active partnership from businesses, starting from the nascent stages of tourism development in various destinations, which significantly increases the chances of success.

"Except for Hoi An, which has already developed tourism very strongly, Duy Xuyen and Dien Ban can find niche markets by promoting the creativity and cultural beauty of their people. The two localities need to fully utilize the opportunities from the national target program to develop infrastructure and pilot tourism models to lead and inspire the community to develop tourism," Ms. Huyen said.

According to Mr. Van Ba Son, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Nam province, these three localities have great potential to create tourism products with the unique identity of Quang Nam, but the way to organize and realize these projects remains a matter of concern.

For example, localities could research creating a common tourism product on the Thu Bon River and potentially expand it to Nong Son. However, promoting and exploiting this product currently faces many obstacles regarding wharves, transportation organization, regulations on vessels, etc.

Meanwhile, Mr. Pham Vu Dung commented that rural tourism or green tourism is often closely related to land factors. Therefore, the issue of using agricultural land in conjunction with tourism is a "bottleneck" that needs to be addressed in order to take advantage of the scenic advantages of many destinations.

Mr. Ho Quang Minh, Deputy Director of the Quang Nam Department of Transport, said that regarding inland waterways, the department has advised the province to integrate them into the Quang Nam Provincial Planning, but at a general level; while points and wharves directly related to tourist areas need separate plans because they are included in "sub-plans".

The Department of Transport will direct its specialized units to coordinate with local authorities as soon as possible to incorporate specific implementation plans to resolve obstacles in the field of inland waterways.
