Computex 2025: AI Laptop with Handcrafted Lacquer Back Cover

The Prestige 13 AI+ Ukiyo-e Edition is part of the artisanal style collection that MSI introduced at Computex 2025. The device marks a collaboration between the company and Japanese lacquer painting brand OKADAYA.

This computer model impresses users right from its unique appearance when the A-side (the lid) is crafted like a lacquer painting. This design is inspired by the work "The Great Wave off Kanagawa" and redrawn in the style of Ukiyo-e paintings.

Every detail of the rolling waves, the small boats and the distant Mount Fuji are vividly reproduced. To achieve this visual effect, the artwork on the body is meticulously crafted with 8 different layers of lacquer. Notably, each coating is processed by hand.

The left corner has a frame with a line of golden Kanji characters, simulating the full name of the work "The Great Wave off Kanagawa". The right area has the MSI logo, along with the symbol of OKADAYA, the unit that made the work.

In addition, the A side is also covered with a layer of paint to create a deep glossy surface, while protecting this surface from being affected by external factors. Of course, the drawback is that the glossy paint will easily leave fingerprints during daily use.

The uniqueness of this design also lies in its limited nature. Because it is produced by hand, the production of this device is limited to 300 units per month. In total, only 1,000 units are sold worldwide. Each machine is laser engraved with a unique serial number, giving the feeling of owning a unique work of art.

The MSI Prestige 13 AI+ Ukiyo-e Edition is also a highly portable device as it weighs only 0.99kg. This allows users to easily put the device in a backpack or handbag to carry around when needed.

The screen of the device is 13.3 inches in size, using an OLED panel with a resolution of 2.8K and a ratio of 16:10. The display quality of this screen is relatively good, with deep blacks and wide viewing angles. The screen of the device is also capable of displaying 100% of the DCI-P3 color gamut and meets the VESA DisplayHDR True Black 500 standard, which can meet the needs of entertainment as well as graphics-related work.

The hinge of the device is solidly finished, sturdy, providing a smooth opening and closing experience. This hinge also allows for a maximum opening of 180 degrees, allowing users to use it at many different angles depending on their needs and usage situations.

The keyboard area is also designed in the style of lacquer painting with a glossy coating on the outside. The keys have moderate distance, good bounce, giving a light and easy-to-get-used-to typing feeling. The touchpad area is also designed with a large size for easy user operation.

The device integrates an Intel Core Ultra 9 288V processor, with a maximum RAM capacity of 32GB. The battery equipped with the device has a capacity of 75Whr, which is relatively large compared to other thin and light laptops. These hardware equipment can meet most office work needs, AI processing and some standard graphics editing tasks.

Despite its slim and light appearance, the MSI Prestige 13 AI+ Ukiyo-e Edition is still equipped with a relatively complete set of necessary connection ports, including 1 USB-A 3.2 Gen 1 port, 2 USB-C ports supporting Thunderbolt 4, 1 headphone jack, 1 HDMI 2.1 port and 1 microSD card slot.

Currently, MSI has not revealed the official price of this special product line. The limited quantity of handcrafted production combined with the unique design has made this machine a valuable item beyond the usual function of a laptop. MSI Prestige 13 AI+ Ukiyo-e Edition will be a worthy collector's item for art lovers.
