Review in a few months
Initially, upon being admitted to a prestigious specialized high school in Ho Chi Minh City, Bich Ngoc only wanted to focus on excelling in all subjects, especially those used for university entrance exams, without setting any goals for the city-level gifted student competition. However, during the summer break of her 11th grade year, she reconsidered. She wanted to make her mark during her high school years with a subject she had long been passionate about and pursued – literature. Therefore, during the summer months, Bich Ngoc dedicated more time to reading, focusing on researching books and materials, preparing for the city-level gifted student competition in her specialized subject and selecting candidates for the national team in September 2023. "I was also very surprised to be selected for the team. Up until the national excellent student competition on January 5th, 2024, I had more than three months to prepare with my teachers and classmates. A few days ago, when I came home from school and learned that I had won third prize, I immediately told my mother and cried. I am extremely grateful to the teachers at Le Hong Phong Specialized High School and the teachers who coached the team. They always encouraged and cared for me, making me feel that I was never alone on this journey," Bich Ngoc shared.Bich Ngoc plans to apply to study economics.
Love literature since childhood
Bich Ngoc, simply dressed in her school uniform, met a reporter from Thanh Nien Newspaper at a cafe near the school gate. The student from Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted proudly spoke about her parents – hardworking, honest people who always gave their children the best. "My mother used to sell mung bean sweet soup in an alley in Go Vap District, near where our family is renting. My father is a construction worker. I remember when I was little, I loved watching fairy tales. Every day, my father would take me to buy fairy tale DVDs to watch. Perhaps my love for literature blossomed from those fairy tale movies," Bich Ngoc confided. The essay question for the national excellent student competition on January 5, 2024, was considered difficult and quite good, demanding the candidates' true abilities. Especially in the second part, the question required students to present their thoughts, based on their understanding and experience of literature, on the opinion expressed in Antoine Compagon's work , "The Destiny of Theory: Literature and Common Sense ."National excellent student exam in Literature, held on January 5, 2024.
