VHO - On June 2, at the Headquarters of the United NationsEducational , Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in Paris, France, a special Certificate of Recognition was awarded to countries with new geoparks recognized as UNESCO Global Geoparks.
According to VNA, Ambassador Nguyen Thi Van Anh, Head of the Permanent Delegation of Vietnam to UNESCO, said that UNESCO's official recognition of Lang Son Geopark as a UNESCO Global Geopark is very important.
This is a milestone that opens up many new opportunities for sustainable tourism development in Lang Son. At the same time, the province can connect deeply with the network of global geoparks, cooperate and exchange experiences in managing, preserving and promoting the values of human natural heritage to serve sustainable development.
The Ambassador also affirmed that Lang Son Global Geopark with its unique, typical and outstanding geological values, cultural heritage, and natural landscapes will be a valuable addition to the UNESCO Global Geoparks system.
Mr. Antonio De Sousa Abreu, Director of the Department of Ecology and Earth Sciences of UNESCO, said that Lang Son Geopark joining the Global Geopark community is very important, not only contributing to enhancing the identity of the region, but also opening up new development opportunities.
Established in 2015, the UNESCO Global Geoparks designation recognizes geological heritage of international significance. The UNESCO Global Geoparks Network serves local communities by combining the conservation of unique geological heritage, raising public awareness and promoting sustainable development.
Lang Son Geopark is the 4th geopark in Vietnam to be recognized as a UNESCO Global Geopark.
