Cong Vinh said he had not accepted the invitation, SLNA blamed him for 'flipping the deal'

On the evening of November 11, Le Cong Vinh denied returning to Song Lam Nghe An (SLNA) as an assistant coach. However, the Nghe An team said they had not received an official response from the former player born in 1985. Previously, the two sides had agreed on registering a job title for Le Cong Vinh at SLNA.

Specifically, according to information from SLNA, Cong Vinh has accepted the invitation to work at the team. This former player sent information and necessary documents to register for the position of technical analyst at the club with Vietnam Professional Football Joint Stock Company (VPF).

Cong Vinh was invited to work at SLNA.

Cong Vinh confirmed that he was invited by SLNA leaders to work for his hometown team. However, after discussing with his family, Cong Vinh did not accept the offer, due to his current job. This information was publicly posted on his personal social media account. SLNA said that it has not received an official response from Cong Vinh after completing the registration procedures.

"After discussing with my family, due to the urgent time, Vinh cannot arrange his current job in Ho Chi Minh City. Perhaps Vinh cannot accept the invitation to return to SLNA to support the team. I hope the leadership and SLNA fans will sympathize with Vinh," Le Cong Vinh announced on social media.

Cong Vinh retired at the end of 2016. After that, this star did not participate in coaching. He became the president of Ho Chi Minh City Club but did not leave a significant mark on the profession.

In recent years, Cong Vinh has been active in the field of community football. It was not until 2024 that the former captain of the Vietnam national team began studying to become a coach from the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) C-class certificate class.

Song Lam Nghe An has just changed its head coach. The team parted ways with coach Pham Anh Tuan after a period of poor performance (no wins after the first 7 rounds of V.League 2024-2025). The new coach of this team is Phan Nhu Thuat.
