High-level meeting between leaders of Vietnam and Cambodia

(Dan Tri) - General Secretary To Lam and CPP President and President of the Cambodian Senate Hun Sen co-chaired a high-level meeting between the Politburo of the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Standing Committee of the Cambodian People's Party.

On February 21st, a high-level meeting took place in Ho Chi Minh City between the Politburo of the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Standing Committee of the Cambodian People's Party (CPP), co-chaired by General Secretary To Lam and CPP Chairman and President of the Cambodian Senate Hun Sen.

This is an important event aimed at further strengthening the good neighborly relations, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation, and long-term sustainability between the two Parties, two States, and peoples of Vietnam and Cambodia in the new situation.

During the meeting, General Secretary To Lam and CPP Chairman Hun Sen informed each other about the situation in their respective parties and countries; exchanged views on the global and regional situation; and discussed a number of issues of mutual interest.

At the same time, they reviewed the results of cooperation between the two sides in the past and agreed on directions for future cooperation.

The two leaders expressed their pleasure and appreciation for the increasingly deep and broad cooperation between the two Parties, the two States, and the peoples of the two countries in various fields, making an important contribution to socio-economic development and enhancing the position and prestige of each country in the region and the world.

CPP Chairman Hun Sen expressed his delight at Vietnam's remarkable socio-economic development.

Mr. Hun Sen highly appreciated the Vietnamese Communist Party, led by General Secretary To Lam, for its decisive implementation of streamlining the apparatus at all levels; considering this a good lesson for Cambodia to learn from.

CPP Chairman Hun Sen also highly appreciated the positive development of relations between the two countries in all fields over the past time. He also emphasized the need to educate the younger generation of both countries about the historical value of the bilateral relationship, the tradition of solidarity and friendship between the two Parties, the two countries, and the people of Vietnam and Cambodia.

General Secretary To Lam and CPP Chairman Hun Sen both emphasized that solidarity and mutual assistance between the two Parties and two countries is an objective necessity and a historical law.

The two leaders affirmed that this is one of the greatest sources of strength, vital to the revolutionary cause, national construction and defense of the two Parties and two countries, and a precious asset of the two nations that needs to be continuously preserved, nurtured and passed on to future generations.

General Secretary To Lam affirmed that the Party, State, and people of Vietnam always attach special importance and give high priority to consolidating and developing good neighborly relations, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation, and long-term sustainability with the Cambodian People's Party, State, and people of Cambodia.

The two leaders agreed to further strengthen political relations to guide the overall relationship between the two parties and countries, and to develop the good relationship between the leaders of both sides.

At the same time, effectively implement high-level agreements between the two Parties and two countries, strengthen cooperation in the fields of defense and security, and promote economic, trade, cultural, educational, and tourism cooperation commensurate with the potential and strengths of each country and the relationship between the two Parties and two countries.

In addition, the two leaders agreed to continue strengthening effective and substantive cooperation between the agencies of the Party, the National Assembly, the ministries and branches of the Government, the Fatherland Front, people's organizations, and localities of the two countries. This will create a strong impact on bilateral relations in the new development phase, serving the practical interests of the people of both countries.

At the meeting, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Prime Minister Hun Manet agreed with the assessments and major orientations of General Secretary To Lam and CPP Chairman Hun Sen regarding the comprehensive and profound relationship between the two Parties and the two countries.

At the same time, further clarification was provided on the results achieved in implementing the conclusions of the 2023 high-level meeting between the two Parties in the areas of cooperation including political-foreign affairs, defense-security, economy, education, legal framework, culture, and tourism.

The two Prime Ministers also frankly pointed out shortcomings that need to be overcome and agreed on a number of key areas that need to be implemented soon, especially initiatives to connect the two economies of Vietnam and Cambodia, as well as the three economies of Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos.
