Da Nang calls for 10 billion USD investment in Chu Lai airport and airport urban area

(Dan Tri) - The People's Committee of Da Nang City proposed the Ministry of Construction to implement the investment and exploitation project of Chu Lai airport and the economic-urban ecosystem of the airport under the PPP method, with an investment capital of up to 10 billion USD.

On December 5, the Standing Committee of the Party Committee of the People's Committee of Da Nang City sent a report to the Standing Committee of the Da Nang City Party Committee on the investment and exploitation situation of the Chu Lai airport project.

The investment and exploitation of Chu Lai airport is being implemented by the People's Committee of Da Nang city. Professional agencies and Vietnam Airports Corporation (ACV) have proposed two methods.

Method 1 is to implement the investment project, exploit Chu Lai Airport and the economic and urban ecosystem of the airport under the public-private partnership (PPP) method.

Method 2 is to invest in construction, upgrading and expanding works at Chu Lai Airport in the role of an airport enterprise, according to ACV's proposal.

For method 1, it is expected to reserve 225 hectares for the free trade zone, 185 hectares for the airport ecological service urban area, and 360 hectares for the industrial park.

Chu Lai Airport is planned to have a capacity of about 10 million passengers/year and 1.5 million tons of cargo/year by 2030, and about 30 million passengers/year by 2050. The scale of investment in the international airport is according to 4F standards.

The total estimated investment capital of method 1 is about 10 billion USD. Of which, Chu Lai airport is 3.3 billion USD, the economic-urban ecosystem of the airport is 6.7 billion USD.

For method 2, ACV said it will balance capital planning to invest in construction, upgrading, and expansion of works at Chu Lai Airport in its role as an airport enterprise after the plan is approved. However, ACV did not specify the scale and total investment capital.

Through research, review and consultation with relevant agencies, the People's Committee of Da Nang City has sent a dispatch to the Ministry of Construction requesting a unified policy to continue implementing the project according to method 1.

The People's Committee of Da Nang City also proposed that the Ministry of Construction report to the Prime Minister for consideration and assign the City People's Committee as the competent authority to implement the project.
