Hanoi University of Social Sciences and Humanities explains the decision to remove the C00 combination from consideration in a series of majors.

Recently, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Vietnam National University, Hanoi) announced its enrollment plan for 2026. One of the biggest changes is that the school plans to eliminate the C00 combination in 11 majors compared to last year, including: Journalism, Oriental Studies, Korean Studies, Management Science, Public Relations, Information Management, Tourism and Travel Services Management, Hotel Management, Office Management, International Studies, Psychology.

Besides, the school also no longer recruits the groups C03 (Math, Literature, History), C04 (Math, Literature, Geography), X78 (Literature, English, Economic and Legal Education).

Speaking to VietNamNet reporter , Associate Professor Dr. Dang Hong Son, Vice Principal of the school, said that this change is part of the school's general enrollment roadmap. Previously, in the 2025 enrollment season, the school planned to eliminate the C00 combination. However, due to the urgent time, this could not be officially implemented.

This year, after careful calculation and discussion with the school's training units, the school has finalized the list of combinations and announced it in December so that candidates still have more time to review and prepare.

“During this process, the school has considered the impacts on candidates who are studying for the C00 group,” said Associate Professor, Dr. Dang Hong Son.

According to Associate Professor, Dr. Dang Hong Son, the school's development strategy in the past and in the future is to train not only basic science fields such as Literature, Philosophy, History, Language, Sociology, Archival Studies... but also gradually develop into modern, highly applicable science fields.

These fields require more information updates and new theories. To access and update quickly, students need to have foreign language skills.

In addition, the school is also aiming for at least 30% of subjects to be taught in English, according to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training. Therefore, in recent years, the school has continued to promote and strengthen teaching in English.

This policy is also consistent with Resolution 71 on breakthroughs in education and training development, including making English the second language in schools.

For these reasons, Associate Professor Dr. Dang Hong Son said the school decided to no longer recruit the C00 combination for updated and modern majors, instead focusing on recruiting combinations that use English.

However, for basic sciences and traditional fields with specific cultural identity and national traditions, the school still considers admission based on this combination.

In addition, the school is divided into two groups, one group of 12 majors doubles the English score and one group of 18 majors doubles the Literature score.

“This is a suitable calculation for two groups of basic and applied training majors, aiming to further enhance the internationalization of training programs, increase the number of subjects taught in English, and at the same time implement the strategy of making English the second language in training as directed by Resolution 71,” said Mr. Son.
