Ensuring the consumer goods market at the end of the year

Việt NamViệt Nam14/10/2024

Along with reconstruction and recovery efforts following Typhoon No. 3, demand for goods tends to increase towards the end of the year. Therefore, ensuring an abundant supply of consumer goods, especially food, and preventing shortages and unusual price increases, is being proactively implemented by relevant sectors and suppliers in the province.

Van Don district has handed over land to aquaculture farmers to begin restoring production.

Van Don district suffered heavy losses in the aquaculture industry after typhoon No. 3. From a major aquaculture area, it is now almost completely devoid of marine life. To quickly restore production, the district is actively implementing the handover of sea areas to producers. To date, 5,500 hectares of aquaculture sea area have been handed over to 57 cooperatives with a total of 912 members, covering a total area of 5,500 hectares of aquaculture sea area, a 42% increase compared to before the typhoon. Households have deployed buoys for oyster farming on approximately 1,000 hectares and planted new oyster spat on 200 hectares. For fish farming, 2,650 fish cages have been restored, reaching 50% of the pre-typhoon level.

Mr. Pham Van Dong, a fish farmer in cage farming in Hon Beo Co area, Cai Rong town (Van Don district), said: "After receiving the handover of the sea, my family quickly started farming and caring for the fish to both develop our family's economy and ensure the supply of seafood in the province."

Not only in Van Don, but the entire province's agricultural sector is actively directing and supporting farmers to return to agricultural production after the storm, across all areas of crop cultivation, livestock farming, and aquaculture. Local authorities and specialized agencies are strengthening technical guidance to ensure high production efficiency, aiming to restore economic production for the people and ensure the supply of raw materials for production, processing, and business establishments in the area.

Following Typhoon No. 3, prices of goods on the market have now returned to normal.

In the first nine months of 2024, total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue are estimated to have increased by 12.97% compared to the same period last year. Commercial activities in the province have returned to stability. Due to the severe impact of typhoon No. 3, commodity prices have fluctuated slightly upwards, but the supply of goods remains sufficient to meet people's needs. Throughout the province, there have been no instances of commodity speculation, creating shortages to raise prices, illegal profiteering, or exploiting the difficult situation to destabilize the market.

Besides restoring production immediately after the storm, to ensure consumer goods for the end of the year, especially for the food and beverage industry, major businesses and suppliers have proactively planned solutions to ensure the supply of goods on the market.

Quang Ninh imports up to 60% of its food from other provinces. With the recent Typhoon No. 3 severely impacting agricultural production in many localities, relevant units have been planning to seek out new producers and expand their supply markets, not only domestically but also through import markets if necessary. In terms of infrastructure, units are proactively preparing for the storage of goods, especially cold storage facilities for fresh produce such as meat, fish, and vegetables.

A representative from Go! Ha Long Supermarket stated that the unit had proactively planned its inventory well in advance, stocking a wide variety of goods to serve the public. From now until the end of the year and during the Lunar New Year period, the unit will continue to replenish its stock to ensure sufficient supply for people's shopping needs, preventing shortages or stockouts within the system.

Supermarket chains are proactively making plans to stockpile goods for the year-end season.

To ensure the stability of consumer goods supply at the end of the year, the Department of Industry and Trade has proactively advised the Provincial People's Committee on plans to prepare and stockpile essential goods for the end of the year and for Tet (Lunar New Year); implemented market stabilization measures in accordance with the law; and supported and connected businesses producing and distributing essential goods with credit institutions in the area to access loans with preferential interest rates and stockpile goods to stabilize the market.

In addition, the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Market Management force are proactively coordinating to strengthen market supervision and management regarding price listing and selling goods at listed prices, market price fluctuations; combating smuggling, commercial fraud, and substandard goods… promptly detecting and strictly handling organizations and individuals who take advantage of the impact of natural disasters to speculate, hoard goods, and increase selling prices for the purpose of illegal profit; selling substandard goods or selling expired goods on the market according to the law.
