Bananas are currently a major fruit crop and also one of Vietnam's most important export fruits. The global market for Vietnamese bananas is expanding, creating great expectations for this industry.
With strong global demand and abundant domestic production potential, many experts believe that Vietnam's banana export value could easily reach $1 billion in the near future.
However, the development of the banana industry still faces many challenges, especially Fusarium wilt – Panama disease.
This disease is caused by the fungus Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. cubense (Foc), which has a very high resistance to common fungicides, making control measures ineffective, mainly focusing on hygiene and disinfection to limit spread.
To find solutions and share experiences in controlling Panama wilt disease, on December 13th in Ho Chi Minh City, the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection, in collaboration with the Agriculture and Environment Newspaper and the Fruit and Vegetable Research Institute, organized a forum aimed at finding solutions to control Panama wilt disease in banana plants.
