According to the proposal of the People's Committee of Son La province, this expressway has a total length of about 105 km. The starting point is at Km85+300, connecting to the Hoa Binh - Moc Chau expressway project; the end point connects to National Highway 4G in Chieng Mai commune (belonging to the old Son La city).
The project is proposed to be invested in a complete scale of 4 lanes; synchronous system of bridges, culverts, tunnels and auxiliary works according to the planning. The total preliminary investment is about 22,300 billion VND from the central budget, implemented in the period of 2026 - 2030.
The People's Committee of Son La province affirmed that the investment in this expressway is a section of the Hanoi - Hoa Binh - Son La - Dien Bien expressway (CT.03), which plays a particularly important role in connecting the Northwest region. The investment in the project will create a strong driving force to promote the socio -economic development of the province and the entire Northwest region.
When completed, the expressway will contribute to completing the strategic traffic axis CT.03, shortening travel time between the center of Son La province with Hanoi and the delta provinces. In particular, the expressway will increase the ability to connect urban areas, Moc Chau national tourist area, industrial zones and economic centers of the region.
The new expressway will create space for urban, commercial and service development along the Moc Chau - Yen Chau - Mai Son - Chieng Mai corridor; effectively exploit the province's tourism potential; ensure national defense and security requirements and enhance the competitiveness of the local economy.
