According to the Vietnam Civil Aviation Authority, this aircraft has been parked at Noi Bai International Airport since May 1, 2007. On November 11, 2014, the Cambodian State Committee for Civil Aviation responded that Royal Khmer Airlines' operating license had been revoked, the aircraft's Cambodian registration had been canceled since 2008, and they agreed to allow Vietnam to handle the aircraft according to Vietnamese law. However, due to various procedural obstacles, the aircraft has yet to be disposed of.
To definitively resolve the issue, the Vietnam Civil Aviation Authority proposed assigning the equipment to the Vietnam Aviation Academy for use as a model and teaching aid for practical training in aviation. The Vietnam Aviation Academy would be responsible for hiring survey units to develop a feasible plan for dismantling and relocating the equipment to the Academy's third facility in Cam Ranh.
According to the Vietnam Civil Aviation Authority, the estimated cost of purchasing the aircraft for use as a teaching model is approximately 500 billion VND. Meanwhile, the cost of dismantling, transporting, assembling, and completing the handover of the abandoned aircraft is expected to be only between 8.74 and 9.66 billion VND. Although it is no longer possible to restore its flight capabilities, the aircraft still retains all its main components, making it useful as a visual teaching aid for students.
The Vietnam Aviation Academy also committed to ensuring sufficient funding to receive the Boeing 727-200 aircraft from tuition fees, sponsorships, etc., without using funds from the State budget.
