According to the relevant units, constructing a tunnel to replace the Cat Lai bridge will reduce land acquisition costs and minimize the impact on the lives of residents on both sides of the Dong Nai River.
On November 15th, leaders from the Dong Nai Department of Transport, the Department of Construction, and many other units in the province held a working session with leaders of Fecon Joint Stock Company and its partner, Shanghai Tunnel Engineering Co.STEC, regarding cooperation in implementing underground transportation infrastructure projects in Dong Nai province.
Units participating in the working session.
During the meeting, representatives from Fecon Joint Stock Company stated that the company and its partner are units with the capacity and experience in constructing infrastructure and underground works such as bridges and tunnels.
In particular, Fecon and its partners proposed the idea of building a tunnel across the Dong Nai River instead of building a bridge for the Cat Lai bridge project connecting Dong Nai province and Ho Chi Minh City.
Currently, the Nhon Trach area connecting to Ho Chi Minh City is still primarily traversed by the Cat Lai ferry.
According to this unit, building a tunnel under the river will reduce difficulties and obstacles in land clearance work. This will minimize the social impact on residents living in the project's planned area.
After listening to the company's report and sharing, the leaders of Dong Nai Department of Transport and other units said that in the coming time, Dong Nai will be a large construction site with many infrastructures, industrial parks and transportation systems being deployed.
Therefore, this will be a favorable condition for businesses to conduct research and participate in bidding to implement projects while ensuring progress and quality.
Regarding the proposed idea of constructing a tunnel under the Dong Nai River instead of a bridge for the Cat Lai Bridge project, representatives from various departments and agencies requested that the company conduct more thorough research and submit a detailed plan to the Provincial People's Committee. They also requested that the company proactively work with the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee to reach a consensus.
In 2017, the Prime Minister approved the amendment to the Ho Chi Minh City Transport Development Plan until 2020 and beyond, as requested by the Ministry of Transport .
Accordingly, it was agreed to build a bridge to replace the Cat Lai ferry, located in the former District 2 (now Thu Duc City, Ho Chi Minh City) and Nhon Trach district (Dong Nai province), crossing the Dong Nai River.
In the past, Dong Nai province has repeatedly proposed building the Cat Lai bridge in 2025 to eliminate the Cat Lai ferry. However, Ho Chi Minh City has proposed building it after 2030.
