The Scud-B missile system, acquired by Vietnam from the Soviet Union in the 1980s, is currently in service with the 490th Missile Brigade, Artillery and Missile Command. It is the most modern ballistic missile and Vietnam is the only country in Southeast Asia to possess it.
Having gone through more than 40 years of construction, combat, and development, the 490th Missile Brigade has effectively maintained and utilized the Scud-B missile system. To this day, this missile system remains a source of pride for the artillery and missile troops.
Regarding the specifications of the missile system, the officer at the exhibition stated that the Scud-B surface-to-surface ballistic missile system includes a launch vehicle and missiles, along with various equipment to ensure missile launch missions. The launch vehicle has a base length of 13.36 m, a height in the marching state (missile lying horizontally on the launch platform) of 3.33 m, a height when the missile is in the combat-ready position of 13.67 m, and a width of 3.05 m; the launch vehicle weighs 37.4 tons with missiles; and has 525 horsepower.

The launch platform performs tasks such as transporting missiles to the launch site; transferring missiles from a mobile state to a combat-ready state; inspecting missiles; launching missiles; and recovering missiles if they are not launched.
Meanwhile, the missile is 11.16 m long; weighs 5,860 kg when fully fueled, and has a diameter of 880 mm; the warhead weighs 987 kg, including 776 kg of explosives. The missile can cause a lethal radius of 4-6 hectares, equivalent to 40,000-60,000 m² .
The missile's structure consists of four main compartments: the warhead compartment at the top, followed by the control compartment, then the fuel compartment, and finally the engine compartment. The missile is designed for long-range strategic attacks, primarily aimed at destroying enemy personnel, command centers, bases, and important military structures such as airfields and ports.

"The maintenance and upkeep of the missiles are currently very strict. Therefore, even after a long time, the unit still ensures its technical readiness, always remaining in a state of combat readiness and capable of carrying out missions when ordered," the officer said.
According to the official, the publicly available specifications state that the Scud-B missile has a maximum range of 300 km. However, Vietnam has improved and upgraded it to a range of approximately 500 km.
