Helping farmers escape poverty sustainably.
Nearly 10 years ago, Mr. Le Tien Dung (Thanh Khe ward) struggled with low-paying jobs. The turning point came when the local authorities allowed him to temporarily borrow 2,000 square meters of land on Yen Khe 1 street, an area previously polluted by waste.
Thanks to the support of the Farmers' Association, which provided him with two loans totaling 80 million VND from the Farmers' Support Fund, he gradually expanded his cultivation of flowers, ornamental plants, and agricultural products. During the Tet holiday season, his income from flower cultivation reached 100-150 million VND.
Many effective urban agricultural models have been supported by the Farmers' Association at all levels, contributing to increased income and stable livelihoods. A prime example is the high-tech straw mushroom cultivation model of Mr. Dao Huy Tung (Cam Le ward). Previously, Mr. Tung faced many difficulties due to lack of capital, lack of land, and uncertain product output due to a lack of consumer markets.
By participating in the association, he received support from the local government in borrowing 700m² of land, accessing preferential capital from the Farmers' Support Fund, and securing stable markets for his products. To date, his model has been operating effectively, generating an income of approximately 30 million VND per month.
In 2024, the various levels of the Farmers' Association established 23 cooperative groups, 50 professional farmers' associations, 5 cooperatives, and 24 professional branches; 2,142 farmer members received vocational training; and 4,838 members received training in the transfer of scientific and technical knowledge, accessing new technological advancements in production.
The city-level Farmers' Support Fund currently has over 47.5 billion VND, of which 44.7 billion VND has been disbursed to 200 projects, helping more than 1,300 households borrow capital to develop their economy. The majority of households borrowed capital to implement projects in crop cultivation, livestock farming, and household production and business.
According to a representative of the City Farmers' Association, in recent times, the association has focused on vocational training, transferring scientific and technical advancements, and supporting members in developing circular agriculture and adapting to climate change. At the same time, it has concentrated on connecting with markets and promoting products through both traditional and e-commerce channels to enhance the value of agricultural products.
In addition, training and capacity building for grassroots association officials have been intensified, helping the association's activities become increasingly effective and practical, and a reliable support for its members.
A pillar of support for women entrepreneurs.
Not only does the Da Nang City Women's Union represent and protect the rights of its female members, but it also serves as a strong support system, helping many women confidently start businesses and engage in economic activities. Over the past period, the Union has effectively implemented the "Support for Women's Entrepreneurship" project for the period 2017-2025, launched by the Prime Minister, helping many members realize their dreams of becoming self-reliant and financially independent through their own abilities.
For Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Nguyet (Ngu Hanh Son ward), the motivation for starting a business began with not letting the ginger grown at home go to waste. In 2017, Ms. Nguyet planted ginger on an area of 100m2, but when harvest time came, the price of ginger was low and no one would buy it. Thanks to a friend's suggestion on how to make traditional ginger tea, she researched and successfully experimented.
She received support from the City Women's Union through its "Support for Women's Entrepreneurship" project. With the Union's assistance in capital, guidance on product registration, management skills training, and digital transformation, she gradually professionalized her production process. Her ginger tea product, under the brand name Tâm Nguyên, was recognized as a 3-star OCOP product in 2021. From a small kitchen, she expanded her workshop, brought her products to e-commerce platforms, and created jobs for many local women.
Meanwhile, Ms. Trinh Thi Hong (Lien Chieu ward), Director of Minh Hong Biotechnology Joint Stock Company, not only develops sustainable economic activities but also contributes to spreading the spirit of green entrepreneurship. In 2012, Ms. Hong researched and successfully utilized organic waste such as vegetables and fruits to produce safe and environmentally friendly dishwashing liquid, floor cleaner, shampoo, and hand sanitizer. With support from the City Women's Union in connecting and promoting her products, Ms. Hong gradually expanded her market and built her own brand.
Not only is she a successful businesswoman, but she also creates jobs for dozens of disadvantaged women and teaches them how to produce detergents from discarded materials. As the head of the Da Nang Women's Entrepreneurship Club, she actively shares her experience and advises many women on their entrepreneurial journey.
According to representatives of the City Women's Union, in implementing the "Supporting Women's Entrepreneurship" project for the period 2017-2025, the Women's Union at all levels is stepping up propaganda, coordinating with functional agencies to train and transfer scientific and technical knowledge and skills to women entrepreneurs.
To date, the organization has supported 1,143 women in starting businesses and entrepreneurship; and assisted in the establishment of 18 women-managed cooperatives and associations. From seemingly small ideas, thanks to the association's support, many women have confidently stepped out of their comfort zones and asserted themselves with promising business models.
