The English language learning movement in high schools in the mountainous areas of Ha Tinh province has faced many limitations due to limited access to materials, insufficient practice environments, and inadequate infrastructure.
However, in recent years, with the involvement of the school, teachers, and the students themselves, the quality of the subject has improved significantly. Numerous outstanding achievements have emerged consecutively, demonstrating that the improvement of English language quality is on the right track and is being maintained steadily.

Recently, the news that Nguyen Dinh Anh Tuan, a student in class 11A1 at Huong Son High School (Huong Son commune), achieved an IELTS score of 8.0 has brought great joy and pride to his teachers and friends.
Anh Tuan shared: “I try to maintain daily exposure to English by listening to podcasts, watching videos , and reading short news articles. I don't learn by rote memorization but focus on understanding the content. In the evenings, I spend time doing practice tests, noting down my mistakes to correct them. This learning method helps me progress steadily and feel more confident when taking the IELTS exam. For me, a score of 8.0 is both a joy and an important step in my learning process.”
Anh Tuan's achievement continues the impressive streak of English proficiency among students at Huong Son High School. Over the past three years, nearly 60 students have achieved IELTS certificates with scores of 6.0 or higher.

In particular, class 12A1 impressed with nearly 20 students achieving scores between 6.5 and 7.5, including some who scored 8.0.
Among them is Nguyen Van Hao, a student in class 12A1, who won second prize in English at the provincial excellent student competition for two consecutive years (grades 10 and 11). At the beginning of grade 12, he continued to impress with an IELTS score of 7.5. Recently, Hao won first prize in English at the provincial excellent student competition for grade 12.
Hao shared: “I don't attend extra classes at a center; I mainly self-study through the internet and AI tools. These software programs help me correct my pronunciation, practice speaking, and check for errors in my writing. Online learning not only saves time but also creates many opportunities for practice, thanks to which my skills, especially speaking, have improved significantly.”

In recent years, Cu Huy Can High School (Mai Hoa commune) has made significant progress in promoting English language learning. Despite being a mountainous school with challenging learning conditions, a small student body (over 530 students), and relatively low entrance scores for 10th grade, the school has found many suitable ways to encourage students to learn and practice foreign languages.

As the first student from Cu Huy Can High School to achieve an IELTS score of 8.0, Nguyen Phi Hao (class 12A1) is overjoyed and proud. Notably, this result was achieved through diligent study at home and in class, without relying on tutoring centers.
Phi Hao shared: “I am very happy to have achieved an IELTS score of 8.0. My secret is to dedicate time to studying regularly every day, reviewing grammar and practicing listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. In addition, I also actively participate in extracurricular activities in English and exchange ideas with friends and teachers to improve my language skills.”

Thanks to creating an effective learning environment, the number of students achieving IELTS certificates at the school has steadily increased year by year. In the last three years, Cu Huy Can High School has had 15 students achieve IELTS scores of 6.0 or higher.
Mr. Nguyen Tien Phong, Vice Principal of Cu Huy Can High School, said: “The school recognizes English as a crucial factor for students to expand their opportunities for university admission and win scholarships both domestically and internationally after graduating from high school. Therefore, the school administration always encourages teachers to innovate methods and organize many English-related activities for students to practice. In the future, the school aims to increase the number of students achieving IELTS certificates and those excelling in English at the provincial level.”

Meanwhile, at Huong Khe High School, Le Phuong Uyen, a student in class 12A1, recently achieved an excellent IELTS score of 8.0 and won second prize in the provincial-level 12th-grade student excellence competition. This is a great joy for the teachers and students of the school because this achievement not only affirms the student's persistent efforts but also shows that the quality of English teaching and learning at the school is constantly improving.
It is known that, in addition to Phuong Uyen, over 30 students from Huong Khe High School have achieved IELTS certificates with scores ranging from 6.0 to 8.0 in the past three years. This result has contributed to creating strong motivation for the foreign language learning movement throughout the school, while also opening up many opportunities for university admissions for students.
Sharing her thoughts on the students' achievements, Ms. Le Thi Tam, an English teacher at Huong Khe High School, said: “What makes us happiest is not just the high scores, but the noticeable change in the students' attitudes towards learning. When they see their friends achieving IELTS scores from 6.0 to 8.0, other students also set their own goals and proactively seek ways to improve their skills. This positive influence has created a much more vibrant English learning environment than before.”

The results achieved at high schools in the mountainous areas of Ha Tinh province show a clear transformation in foreign language learning. Previously, students were hesitant about English, but now they are gradually becoming more confident, ready to set high goals and develop appropriate training methods.
Moreover, these results equip students with the necessary tools to integrate and meet the demands of both their studies and future careers. With these sustained efforts, the English learning movement in high schools in the mountainous areas of Ha Tinh province promises to continue developing, creating even more bright spots in the future.
