Investigation into work accident that killed and left missing 5 workers at hydropower plant

(NLDO)- Kon Tum Provincial People's Committee directed the investigation into the accident that left 5 workers dead and missing at the Dak Mi 1 Hydropower project in Dak Glei district.

Accordingly, the Chairman of the Kon Tum Provincial People's Committee requested the Provincial Police to direct functional forces to coordinate with relevant units to urgently organize search and rescue for the victims; investigate and determine the specific cause of the labor accident at the hydropower project, as a basis for handling according to regulations; report the results to the Provincial People's Committee before January 3, 2025.

The Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee requested the Department of Industry and Trade to preside over and coordinate with relevant units to organize an inspection of the entire investment and construction process of the Dak Mi 1 Hydropower Project invested by Quang Duc Kon Tum Joint Stock Company; report the results to the Provincial People's Committee before January 3, 2025.

Kon Tum provincial authorities are actively searching for the remaining two workers missing in the rubble.

The Provincial People's Committee requested the Department of Construction to coordinate with the Department of Industry and Trade, Dak Glei District People's Committee and relevant units to organize inspections and evaluate the implementation of work to ensure safety and quality of the above construction works.

At the same time, the Provincial People's Committee also requested the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs to coordinate with relevant units to establish an interdisciplinary inspection team to organize inspections and checks on the implementation of labor safety measures during the construction of the Dak Mi 1 Hydropower project to ensure labor safety and workers' rights.

Authorities dispatched rescue vehicles and blocked off the scene of the accident.

Kon Tum Provincial People's Committee requests to resolutely handle violations of labor safety regulations within its authority; in cases exceeding its authority, it must report to the Provincial People's Committee for consideration and decision.

The Provincial People's Committee also requested the Dak Glei District People's Committee and relevant departments to visit, encourage and support the victims' families to overcome difficulties.

Previously, Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper reported that during the construction of Dak Mi 1 Hydropower Plant, a scaffolding collapse accident occurred, killing and leaving 5 workers missing.

By noon on December 31, authorities had found three bodies and were trying to search for the remaining two people buried under the rubble.
