A recent incident on an American Airlines flight has led to an investigation to determine whether hidden cameras were found inside the restrooms of one of the airline's planes. U.S. police and the FBI are treating this situation as "potential criminal activity."

The incident occurred last Saturday, September 2nd, on American Airlines domestic flight AA-1441, from the airline's hub at Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) in North Carolina to Boston Logan International Airport (BOS). According to the Independent, the incident involved a teenage female passenger, a mobile phone, and a flight attendant.

American airline is facing scandal over hidden cameras in restrooms.

Reportedly, the female passenger wanted to use the airplane restroom, but a male flight attendant stopped her, telling her he needed to wash his hands. Shortly afterward, the passenger used the restroom. It is said that the passenger's mother warned other passengers not to use the same restroom because there was a hidden camera inside.

Upon landing in Boston, Massachusetts state police boarded the plane and escorted away the male flight attendant suspected of involvement, after which airline staff inspected the restrooms. Because this was a domestic flight and the incident occurred in US airspace, local authorities will be responsible for the investigation.

Simple Flying contacted American Airlines and received the following statement from the airline: "American Airlines Flight 1441 from Charlotte (CLT) to Boston (BOS) is under investigation by law enforcement. We take this matter very seriously and are fully cooperating with law enforcement in their investigation, as safety and security are our highest priority."

Although installing cameras in airplane restrooms is not permitted under any circumstances, it should be noted that, for general cabin surveillance, surveillance cameras can often be found on aircraft.

They are commonly used to monitor the cabin and certain sensitive areas, such as the cockpit entrance, and to ensure the safety of passengers and the flight. Additionally, on larger aircraft, cabin cameras can allow the crew to monitor areas out of their line of sight.

Previously, there were reports that some airlines had cameras integrated into their screens to monitor individual passengers, but this has been proven false, as airlines have confirmed that the cameras have never been and will never be activated.

It's also worth noting that some large aircraft may have various cameras mounted on the exterior, depending on the airline. However, this is used solely for the purpose of making the operation of these large aircraft easier and safer.
