Investigation into the case of 49 students suspected of being poisoned after dinner at the cafeteria

Accordingly, the Food Safety Department received information about a suspected food poisoning incident at Lao Cai College (address: M9 Street, Bac Cuong Ward, Lao Cao City, Lao Cai Province). Of which, about 49 students showed symptoms of stomachache, nausea and diarrhea after having dinner at the school canteen.

Faced with the above situation, the Food Safety Department requested the Lao Cai Provincial Department of Health to urgently suspend the operation of school canteens where food poisoning is suspected to have occurred.

Along with that, Lao Cai Provincial Department of Health organized an investigation and traced the origin of food to clearly identify the source of raw materials and food for processing facilities suspected of causing poisoning; took food samples and specimens for testing to find the cause.

On the other hand, the unit detects and strictly handles violations of food safety regulations (if any) and publicly discloses the results to promptly warn the community.

In addition, Lao Cai Provincial Department of Health has increased propaganda and guidance for collective kitchens and food service establishments to ensure hygiene and food safety conditions, strictly manage the origin of food ingredients, three-step food inspection, store food samples and hygiene in processing stages.

In addition, the Food Safety Department requested the Lao Cai Provincial Department of Health to strictly implement the contents of Official Dispatch No. 2487/BYT-ATTP dated May 11, 2024 and Official Dispatch No. 3113/BYT-ATTP dated June 7, 2024 of the Ministry of Health on preventing and handling food poisoning and strengthening food poisoning prevention.
