Heads of Vietnamese diplomatic missions abroad work with Quang Tri province

This afternoon, April 1st, the delegation of Heads of Vietnamese diplomatic missions abroad for the 2024-2027 term, led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Do Hung Viet, worked with Quang Tri province on the socio-economic development situation, international cooperation needs, and proposals of Quang Tri province. Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Hoang Nam met with the delegation.

Informing the delegation, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Hoang Nam emphasized that over the years, Quang Tri province has always received attention and support from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in various fields. This includes support in connecting the province with foreign partners, attracting investment, and receiving development aid.

In 2024, the province signed 8 international agreements and 13 cooperation documents with foreign non-governmental organizations and international organizations; established friendly cooperative relations and had additional cooperation programs with Champasak and Sekong provinces. The Provincial People's Committee chaired and coordinated with the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Thai Embassy in Vietnam to co-organize the "Meeting Thailand" conference in Quang Tri province.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has partnered with the province in organizing the Peace Festival with the theme "Together Building a Peaceful World" in 2024; supported the province in having historical sites and scenic spots included in the UNESCO list, contributing to cultural preservation and tourism development; and assisted the province in border management and protection and promoting cooperation with Laos. The Ministry has also actively supported the province in overcoming the consequences of war, especially in the field of clearing unexploded ordnance and landmines...

Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Hoang Nam requested that the delegation of heads of Vietnamese representative offices abroad pay attention to and support the connection and exchange of information in the work of responding to climate change. He also requested support in connecting Quang Tri province with potential investors abroad; sharing information on investment trends of businesses in host countries so that Quang Tri province has a basis for research and development of appropriate investment promotion orientations and programs. Furthermore, he requested increased support to enhance the capacity of officials and students in Quang Tri province through scholarship programs, exchanges, and experience sharing in other countries.

Regarding the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee requested attention and support for the province in mobilizing and leading the implementation of the Pacific Friendship humanitarian cooperation program funded by the US Government, expected to take place in September 2025 (priority option) or August 2025 (contingency option). He also requested consideration and approval of the principle of coordinating with Quang Tri province to co-chair the "Introducing Quang Tri" conference in 2025 in Hanoi. Furthermore, he requested support for the province in expanding local-level relations with provinces and cities in the region and around the world. Initially, Quang Tri province prioritizes establishing relations with Hiroshima province (Japan), Gangwon province (South Korea), etc.

The province requests the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to assist in accessing and mobilizing aid from international organizations and foreign non-governmental organizations in the following areas: support for victims of Agent Orange, people with disabilities, education, healthcare, environmental protection, and climate change response... on a long-term and sustainable basis. It also requests the introduction of international media outlets to visit and film about the image and people of Quang Tri, and to promote it on international media channels to support the province in introducing and promoting local tourism. Furthermore, it requests that subordinate units pay attention to and support the province in organizing external information and cultural activities.

The Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee requested the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to exchange information with the US side to enhance assistance to Vietnam in providing information and field resources for the search for missing Vietnamese soldiers (Quang Tri province has implemented this activity quite effectively). He also requested that the Provincial Department of Foreign Affairs of Quang Tri be given favorable conditions and guidance on the procedures related to the repatriation of remains. The Vice Chairman also presented specific recommendations and proposals to Vietnamese ambassadors and consuls general abroad.

Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Do Hung Viet acknowledged and accepted the suggestions and proposals from Quang Tri province; and affirmed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the delegations of heads of Vietnamese representative offices abroad will actively cooperate and connect to support and assist Quang Tri province in various fields. “Information about the potential, strengths, achievements, and socio-economic development orientation of Quang Tri province is an important basis for heads of Vietnamese representative offices abroad to have a foundation and plan to promote and connect with countries around the world in promoting cooperation with Quang Tri in the future,” Deputy Minister Do Hung Viet emphasized.
