Pineapple tortoiseshell about 17kg caught in fisherman's net

On December 2, the Military Command of Quang Phu Ward (Da Nang City) informed that the unit coordinated with Tam Thanh Border Guard Station and relevant agencies to receive a rare individual of the pineapple hawksbill turtle voluntarily handed over by local people.

Accordingly, Mr. Nguyen Cao Gioi (born in 1987, residing in Quang Phu ward) discovered this individual caught in a net while fishing in the sea area of ​​Tinh Thuy block. Suspecting it to be an endangered wild animal, protected by law, Mr. Gioi reported it to the authorities.

Immediately after receiving the news, the Quang Phu Ward Military Command, Tam Thanh Border Guard Station and Ward Police were present to inspect. Through initial identification, this is a pineapple hawksbill turtle, weighing about 17kg, in stable health.

The units made a record according to the correct procedure and coordinated to release the hawksbill turtle back into the sea safely.

The Green Turtle is a species of sea turtle belonging to the family Green Turtle, widely distributed in tropical and subtropical seas. This species is classified as endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and is listed in the Vietnam Red Book, requiring strict protection.
