Italian media outlet Tutto Mercato claims that Jay Idzes completed the formalities to join Sassuolo in Serie A yesterday (August 8).
This is a rather unusual deal; Sassuolo paid a total of 11 million euros and simultaneously received two players, Jay Idzes and Fali Cande (from Guinea). However, the 11 million euro price tag is largely for the Indonesian center-back, while Fali Cande's transfer fee is very low.

According to the same media outlet, besides Sassuolo, at least three other Italian clubs were interested in Jay Idzes: Torino, Udinese, and Genoa. However, Sassuolo ultimately reached an agreement with the Indonesian national team's central defender.
With a price tag of 11 million euros, Jay Idzes is among the most expensive players in the history of Southeast Asian football.
That's a transfer fee almost three times higher than the transfer fee of "Thai Messi" Chanathip Songkrasin at his peak (approximately 3.9 million euros, over 119 billion VND, when he transferred from Consadole Sapporo to Kawasaki Frontale in Japan in 2022).
Jay Idzes is 25 years old and 1.90m tall. He was born in the Netherlands. Besides Venezia, Jay Idzes also played for the famous Dutch team PSV Eindhoven from 2018 to 2020.
Jay Idzes has recently been wearing the captain's armband for the Indonesian national team. He is one of the team's biggest hopes in the fourth round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in the Asian region.
