At the 2023 Asian Women's Club Volleyball Championship in Vinh Phuc , the Vietnamese women's volleyball team narrowly defeated Iran 3-2. However, in their rematch at the 2023 AVC Challenge Cup, Coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet's team convincingly beat their opponent 3-0 with scores of 25-10, 25-9, and 25-19.
Right from the first set, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team started very well. Coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet's team scored five consecutive points to take a 5-0 lead against the Iranian women's volleyball team. It was evident that the Iranian women's volleyball team's defense was not strong in the first half of the first set. This allowed the Vietnamese team to score points from drop shots at the net on several occasions. In addition, the West Asian team also made many serving errors, serving out of bounds and failing to clear the net.
Despite the Vietnamese girls' complete dominance, outside hitter Tran Thi Thanh Thuy remained the impressive player with her powerful spikes and delicate drop shots. The Vietnamese women's volleyball team consistently led their opponents by a large margin, from 14-6, 20-10… before finishing the first set with a score of 25-10.
Thanh Thúy (3) continued to play excellently to help the Vietnamese women's volleyball team convincingly win against the Iranian team.
In the second set, the Iranian women's volleyball team regained their composure and posed many difficulties for the Vietnamese team in the early stages. However, the best the West Asian team could do was lead Vietnam 4-1. After that, Coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet's team leveled the score and then surged ahead to win even more decisively than in the first set, with a score of 25-9.
The third set was the one in which the Iranian women's volleyball team scored the most points (equal to the total of the previous two sets) in their match against Vietnam. Coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet substituted outside hitter Thanh Thuy for young talent Nhu Quynh. As a result, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team faced some difficulties as they continuously allowed their opponents to take the lead. Despite not having their strongest hitter on the court, the Vietnamese girls still maintained their lead and won the third set 25-19.
Thus, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team has secured a place in the semi-finals of the AVC Challenge Cup 2023. At 2 PM tomorrow (June 22nd), Coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet's team will face the Taiwanese women's volleyball team. This match will determine which opponent the Vietnamese girls will face in the semi-finals.
