Composer Lu Nhat Vu (1936–2025) left behind a musical legacy deeply rooted in Southern Vietnamese culture and imbued with patriotic spirit, with many songs closely associated with the resistance movement and the nation-building process.
Songs like "Saigon Girl Carrying Ammunition," "Song of the Pioneers," "Rest Assured, Mother," and especially "Song of the Southern Land" (released in 1997, the theme song of the film "Southern Land") are loved by many for their ability to evoke, through melody, rhythm, and sound, the era of migrants opening up new lands, carrying layers of regional cultural meaning and the distinctive character of the people of Southern Vietnam.
