Cat Ba Island primarily attracts international tourists.
According to information from the Hai Phong City Department of Tourism , due to the impact of typhoon No. 3, many large accommodation establishments and other services still need time to recover and are not yet able to resume operations.
As of now, on Cat Ba Island, Cat Hai District, Hai Phong City, transportation infrastructure, environmental sanitation, electricity, water, and telecommunications have been restored, and tourism activities have returned to normal.
However, only 33 out of 313 tourist accommodation establishments and 53 out of 65 tourist accommodation vessels have resumed operations.
Cat Ba town suffered heavy damage from the storm, so many accommodation establishments and tourism service businesses have not yet been able to return to normal operation.
Observations in Lan Ha Bay, part of the Cat Ba archipelago, show that most cruise ships and tourist boats have nearly completed repairs. Tourist boats and overnight cruise ships such as Heritage Cruises Binh Chuan, Cat Ba Archipelago, Orchid Cruises, Mon Chéri, La Casta, and Scarlet Pearl have resumed welcoming guests this week.
According to Mr. Nguyen Manh Hung, the owner of an accommodation facility on Cat Ba Island, this is the end of the tourist season and also coincides with the start of the new school year, so most visitors to Cat Ba Island are international tourists, with few Vietnamese visitors.
"Many places are still in ruins due to the storm and will take a long time to repair. Business owners, in addition to raising funds for repairs, are also facing a shortage of manpower to fix the damage after the storm," Hung said.
The owner of Le Pont Cat Ba Bungalow tourist facility said that the damage caused by Typhoon No. 3 is estimated at 6-7 billion VND. If sufficient manpower and finances are available, the facility may be able to complete repairs and reopen to tourists early next week.
Do Son is operating at approximately 50% capacity.
In tourist areas of Do Son district, Hai Phong city, electricity, water, and telecommunications networks are stable. However, trees are still scattered haphazardly, and tourists are scarce.
According to preliminary statistics in Do Son, some establishments that were less affected by Typhoon No. 3 have reopened to tourists immediately after the storm, such as: Dragon Hill International Tourist Area, Hai Yen Hotel, Lam Nghiep Hotel…
The beach in Zone 2, Van Huong Ward, Do Son District, is deserted of tourists; locals are collecting trash on the beach to burn it.
The reopening of tourist facilities in Do Son started about 4 days later than in Cat Ba, with over 50% of tourist establishments in Do Son district resuming operations by September 16th.
At the Dragon Hill International Tourist Area, many major entertainment areas such as the water park and artificial beach remain closed. Beach Area 2 in Van Huong ward, Do Son district, is deserted, and restaurants that have resumed operations are doing so at a reduced capacity.
According to our investigation, due to the limited number of visitors to Do Son at the moment, mainly from Hai Phong city, most restaurants and entertainment venues are experiencing a lack of customers.
Do Son District mobilized more than 100 officials, union members, and civil servants to participate in a general cleanup of roads due to the large number of fallen trees that had not yet been cleared.
According to the leaders of Van Huong ward, Do Son district: "Businesses and accommodation establishments hope that this weekend's traditional Do Son buffalo fighting festival will attract a large number of tourists to Do Son."
Many attractions at the Dragon Hill International Tourist Area remain closed after Typhoon No. 3.
To prepare for the upcoming Do Son Traditional Buffalo Fighting Festival 2024 on September 21st, the People's Committee of Do Son District has mobilized forces from various departments, organizations, agencies, military units, and environmental workers to urgently collect and clear garbage and fallen trees to ensure environmental hygiene for tourists visiting, swimming, and relaxing, as well as to create a clean and beautiful image for Do Son tourism.
