This is considered a significant breakthrough in the treatment of dyslipidemia – a disease that progresses silently but is a major cause of heart attacks, strokes, and many serious cardiovascular complications.

The new method using the active ingredient inclisiran, researched and manufactured by Novartis, has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) since 2021. This approach allows for an effective and sustainable reduction in bad cholesterol (LDL-C), requiring users to receive only two injections per year. (1) As of August 2024, the product has been approved in nearly 100 countries, including the United States, the EU, Japan, and China. (2)

Dyslipidemia, also known as lipid metabolism disorder, is a condition where the amount of fat in the blood increases, affecting the circulation of blood in the blood vessel walls, leading to atherosclerosis. When atherosclerotic plaques form, the blood vessel lumen narrows, hindering blood flow, and in some cases, blood flow is completely blocked. According to medical experts, dyslipidemia is one of the main causes of stroke. Dyslipidemia has been shown to be associated with 56% of coronary artery disease and 18% of strokes. (3)

According to the 2019 Global Burden of Disease statistics, high blood lipids caused nearly 4.4 million deaths, equivalent to 7.78% of deaths globally. (4) The Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) reported that in Vietnam, an estimated 3.8 million people suffer from atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, with high blood lipids being the main cause (accounting for nearly 65%). (5) Given this situation, access to advanced treatment methods is essential. The new generation solution with interventional RNA (siRNA) technology helps patients achieve the goal of controlling blood lipids, especially for patients in the recovery process after myocardial infarction or stroke.
