After several sharp declines last week, coffee prices showed a tendency to recover and rise sharply at the beginning of this week, with an increase of up to 3,000 VND/kg on March 4th compared to the previous trading session.
According to Reuters, severely affected by one of the worst droughts in history, coffee farmers in Brazil sold almost their entire coffee crop months before the new harvest began, as global coffee prices nearly doubled, reaching an all-time high in the past 14 months.
The Brazilian Coffee Industry Association (ABIC) forecasts that world coffee prices will continue to rise in the coming months due to the situation in Brazil – the largest coffee producer and exporter, accounting for nearly half of the world's output – which has struggled with extreme weather for many years, severely impacting crops.
Experts believe the market is showing signs of recovery, attributed to very low inventory levels. According to a report from ICE, Arabica coffee inventories at supervised warehouses remain at their lowest level in nine months, which will support market sentiment. Furthermore, the price recovery is occurring after the market recorded stronger buying demand from exporters.
However, experts also warn that coffee prices still face many risks, as the Brazilian Real continues to weaken, encouraging Brazilian farmers to increase sales. At the same time, with the abundant supply of Robusta from Vietnam, coffee prices may not yet be entering a period of significant increase.
