Japan's market continued its upward trend, supported by stronger oil prices and expectations that the European Union will soon announce measures to support the auto industry amid slowing demand for electric vehicles, but gains were capped by a rebound in the yen.
Traders believe market sentiment has improved following news that the European Commission may announce a support package for the automotive industry on December 16th, potentially including a more flexible adjustment to the 2035 roadmap for phasing out internal combustion engines. This move is expected to ease pressure on European automakers, who are facing weakening demand for electric vehicles and increasing competition from China. The outlook for automotive production is seen as a key factor for the rubber market, given the industry's high consumption of tires.

Meanwhile, the yen rose to 155.21 JPY/USD after a sharp decline in November, making yen-denominated assets less attractive to international investors. In the energy market, oil prices remained near a two-week high on expectations that the US Federal Reserve will cut interest rates this week, supporting economic activity and oil demand. Natural rubber typically tracks oil price movements due to direct competition with synthetic rubber made from petroleum.
