Gia Lai: The pig farming industry continues to grow strongly.
African Swine Fever (ASF) continues to be a major challenge for Vietnam's livestock industry. Since the beginning of the year, the disease has spread to all 34 provinces and cities nationwide, forcing the culling of more than 1.25 million infected pigs. Currently, there are still 28 provinces and cities with active outbreaks that have not yet passed the 21-day quarantine period.
Amidst the complex developments of the epidemic, Gia Lai province has emerged as one of the most effective localities in controlling the disease in the region. Although the disease has been recorded in 25 communes and wards, with a total of 1,601 pigs having to be culled (since the end of June), this number is still significantly lower than neighboring provinces such as Dak Lak (20,857 pigs), Quang Ngai (91,651 pigs), or Da Nang City (51,250 pigs).
Thanks to the close guidance of the Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee and the coordination between the Department of Agriculture and Environment and local authorities, outbreaks in Gia Lai have been promptly contained and handled according to the principle of "wherever an outbreak occurs, handle it there," combined with vigorous disinfection and sterilization.
Thanks to effective disease prevention and control efforts, the growth rate of the pig farming industry in Gia Lai province in 2025 is still expected to exceed 22%, increasing the total herd from 1.4 million pigs (in 2024) to an estimated 1.7 million pigs by the end of this year, affirming the dual efforts of both combating disease and developing production.
