DNVN - On January 17, 2025, live pig prices in the North and Central regions continued their slight downward trend. Currently, live pig prices nationwide are in the range of 66,000 - 69,000 VND/kg.
Pork prices in Northern Vietnam
According to reports, in the northern provinces, today's live pig prices have decreased slightly in some localities such as Vinh Phuc and Ha Nam , both reaching 68,000 VND/kg.
Traders in this region are currently transacting within the price range of 68,000 - 69,000 VND/kg. Localities such as Hanoi, Hung Yen, Hai Duong, Thai Binh, Bac Giang, Thai Nguyen, and Yen Bai continue to maintain the highest price in the region at 69,000 VND/kg.
Pork prices in Central and Central Highlands regions
In the Central and Central Highlands regions, the live pig market also showed a downward trend, with a decrease of 1,000 VND/kg in Binh Dinh and Khanh Hoa, bringing these two localities to the lowest level in the region at 66,000 VND/kg.
In this area, the price of live pigs fluctuates between 66,000 and 69,000 VND/kg.
Pork prices in Southern Vietnam
In the South, live pig prices remained stable, without major fluctuations, staying within the range of 67,000 - 69,000 VND/kg.
Specifically, the lowest price in the region was 67,000 VND/kg in Tra Vinh and Hau Giang, while the highest price of 69,000 VND/kg was recorded in Dong Nai, Tay Ninh, Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Long An, and Kien Giang.
Some experts predict that pork prices may continue to fluctuate due to unpredictable market changes at the end of the year. The imbalance between supply and demand in many regions is the main reason for the pressure on prices. Experts recommend that farmers closely monitor the market to develop appropriate business plans, while also effectively controlling diseases, reducing costs, and improving product quality to ensure profitability.
According to VOV, Mr. Nguyen Kim Doan, Vice Chairman of the Dong Nai Provincial Livestock Association, reported that the current price of live pigs ranges from 68,000 to 70,000 VND/kg.
This price level benefits pig farmers, but due to the impact of African swine fever, many households have suffered heavy losses, up to over 60%, and no longer have pigs to sell.
In addition, some households in the Dong Nai area have had to relocate their livestock farms according to the province's plan, resulting in unstable farm facilities for restocking.
Due to a shortage of domestic supply and the fact that live pig prices in Vietnam are about 10,000 VND/kg higher than in Cambodia, many traders have been smuggling live pigs across the Cambodian border, negatively impacting the livestock industry.
"The price of live pigs differs significantly from that of some countries in the region, leading traders to smuggle pigs for high profits. Therefore, in some border areas, the smuggling of live pigs is occurring. I propose that relevant authorities strengthen inspections and strictly control the smuggling of pigs during this Tet holiday to prevent disease outbreaks that threaten domestic livestock farming," Mr. Nguyen Kim Doan suggested.
