Earlier, on the morning of July 15th, Mr. Nguyen Thai Hong Phong (residing at 51 Nguyen Duong Street, Dien Hong Ward) was exercising in front of his house when he encountered a turtle crawling into his home. The turtle had a bumpy shell with black spots on the shell plate, a light yellow plastron, and also black spots.

Seeing that the turtle was quite beautiful and had an unusual shape compared to common turtles, Mr. Phong took photos and searched online. Some information suggested that it was a golden mountain turtle - a wild animal listed in the Red Book. Therefore, he contacted the Forest Protection Department to hand it over.
Upon inspection, the Dak Doa - Pleiku Forest Protection Department determined that this is a golden mountain turtle , scientifically known as Indotestudo elongata, belonging to Group IIB of the list of endangered, precious, and rare forest plants and animals according to Decree 06/2019/ND-CP, amended by Decree 84/2021/ND-CP of the Government.
Reportedly, the Dak Doa - Pleiku Forest Ranger Station has transferred the turtle to the Wildlife Rescue, Conservation and Development Center (Kon Ka Kinh National Park) for health and condition checks before releasing it back into the wild.
