Market analysis: Chinese demand keeps base prices high.

Despite being in the off-season, the price of Ri6 and Monthong (Thai) durians in many provinces of the Mekong Delta remains about 30% higher than in October. The main reason, according to traders, is the strong resurgence in import demand from the Chinese market, causing a localized supply shortage.

Ms. NT, a wholesaler in Dong Thap , said that the surge in orders from Chinese partners has driven up purchase prices recently. A survey at Hai Lien wholesaler (Dong Thap) also showed a similar trend, with Ri6 grade A being purchased at 75,000 – 76,000 VND/kg, an increase of nearly 30% compared to the end of October.

Notably, Grade A Monthong durian has seen a strong recovery, reaching 100,000 – 105,000 VND/kg, and even peaking at 118,000 – 120,000 VND/kg at times. Mr. Van Khiem, a farmer in Dong Thap, shared that the farm-gate price for Grade A Ri6 durian is 71,000 VND/kg. Meanwhile, Grade A Monthong durian is being purchased by traders at around 120,000 VND/kg, clearly reflecting the continued strong market demand despite a slight downward trend in overall prices compared to the previous month.
