Should I buy SJC gold bars or 9999 round smooth gold rings?
For the domestic market, the price of SJC gold bars has recently been unpredictable, not following the world trend. After many sessions of sideways movement, the price of SJC gold bars is being adjusted to increase. The selling price of SJC gold bars by the State Bank today, August 20, is 80 million VND/tael, an increase of 1 million VND/tael.
The difference between buying and selling prices is at 2 million VND/tael.
Even though the price increases, if you buy in the short term, investors will still lose money. For example, if you buy gold from August 1 at 79.8 million VND/tael and sell it today, August 20, at 79 million VND, investors will lose 800,000 VND/tael.
In fact, it is quite difficult to buy SJC gold bars at gold shops. Most of the shops have announced that they have sold out of gold bars and only sell jewelry products.
Meanwhile, the price of 9999 round smooth gold rings is quite close to the world gold price. There was a time when it was close to the price of SJC gold bars, but the price of gold rings is currently about 2.7 million VND/tael lower.
In early August, the price of 9999 Hung Thinh Vuong round gold rings at DOJI Gold and Gemstone Group was listed at 76.45-77.65 million VND/tael; Saigon Gold and Gemstone Company listed at 76.3-77.65 million VND/tael (buy - sell) and Bao Tin Minh Chau listed at 76.43-77.63 million VND/tael (buy - sell).
By today's session (August 20), the price of 9999 Hung Thinh Vuong round gold rings at DOJI increased to 77.05-78.30 million VND/tael (buy - sell), Saigon Jewelry Company increased to 77.05-78.35 million VND/tael (buy - sell) and Bao Tin Minh Chau increased to 76.98-78.28 million VND/tael (buy - sell).
Therefore, if buying 9999 Hung Thinh Vuong plain round gold rings at DOJI on August 1 and selling them today, the buyer will lose about 600,000 VND/tael. Meanwhile, the loss when buying at Saigon Jewelry Company SJC and Bao Tin Minh Chau is 600,000 VND/tael and 650,000 VND/tael, respectively.
Thus, although the price of 9999 plain round gold rings has increased, investors still lose money when buying in the short term. This loss comes from the difference between buying and selling prices listed by trading units.
It is very difficult to buy gold bars.
According to Lao Dong reporters, in recent trading sessions, business at some gold and gemstone stores in Hanoi is very gloomy. Most stores reported that they do not have SJC gold bars.
An employee at a gold shop on Cau Giay Street (Hanoi) said: "SJC gold bars have stopped selling for nearly 2 months now. As for 9999 round gold rings, our staff cannot know the exact opening time of the day. We only know that when the shop is still open, it will open for sale to customers."
Gold price update
As of 5:50 p.m., DOJI Group listed the price of SJC gold bars at 79 - 81 million VND/tael (buy - sell); Saigon Jewelry Company listed SJC at 79 - 81 million VND/tael (buy - sell).
At the same time, the world gold price listed on Kitco was at 2,522.2 USD/ounce.
