This morning, May 28, Head of the Provincial People's Council's Legal Committee Nguyen Van Khoi chaired a working session of the Provincial People's Council Standing Committee with the People's Court of Vinh Linh district to supervise the trial of criminal cases in the period 2020 - 2023.

From October 1, 2020 to September 30, 2023, Vinh Linh District People's Court has a total of 130 criminal cases/167 defendants accepted. The total number of criminal cases that the court returned for further investigation was 1 case/2 defendants and accepted. The result was 130 cases/167 defendants resolved, reaching a rate of 100%.

The penalties applied to the defendants brought to trial: 107 defendants were sentenced to fixed-term imprisonment, 33 defendants received suspended sentences, 9 defendants received non-custodial reform, 7 defendants were fined, 11 defendants were entrusted with execution of the sentence, and no defendant was exempted from punishment.

The number of cases suspended was 1 case/1 defendant due to the victim withdrawing the request. The total number of cases where the defendant appealed or the People's Procuracy protested the appeal trial was 2 cases, of which 1 case appealed for a reduced sentence; 1 case protested for an increased sentence. The District People's Court organized mobile trials for 8 cases/15 defendants and 22 experience-sharing sessions, 7 cases were tried online.

During the supervision session, the People's Court of Vinh Linh district analyzed and clarified the issues that the supervision team was concerned about, especially the cases with appeals and protests. At the same time, it recommended that the Provincial People's Court consider and help complete the power system and improve the transmission line to conduct online conferences and court sessions.

Concluding the monitoring session, Head of the Provincial People's Council's Legal Committee Nguyen Van Khoi requested the Vinh Linh District People's Court to further improve the quality of trial cases in the coming time, avoid letting criminals escape and allowing wrongful convictions to occur. Continue to focus on resolving typical cases and complicated cases that are of public interest.

At the same time, closely coordinate with the prosecution agencies to perform well the assigned tasks. Strengthen the training and professional development for the staff to meet the increasingly high requirements in the work.

In addition, the People's Court of Vinh Linh district needs to promote propaganda, dissemination of legal education to the people and improve the quality of adjudication of mobile cases in the area. Thereby, contributing to stabilizing political security, social order and safety, promoting local socio-economic development.
