Introducing a draft resolution calling for an end to the embargo on Cuba

On the morning of October 28, in Hanoi, Cuban Ambassador to Vietnam Rogelio Polanco Fuentes met with Vietnamese press reporters to introduce Cuba's draft Resolution to be submitted to the United Nations General Assembly, titled: "The necessity of ending the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States of America against Cuba" (also known as draft Resolution A/80/L.6).

Ambassador Rogelio Polanco Fuentes stated that the United Nations General Assembly will discuss and vote on draft Resolution A/80/L.6 on October 28 and 29.

According to Ambassador Rogelio Polanco Fuentes, this is the 34th time Cuba has submitted a draft resolution to the United Nations General Assembly calling on the United States to lift its embargo against Cuba. Along with continuously submitting draft resolutions to the UN General Assembly, Ambassador Rogelio Polanco Fuentes stated that Cuba is always ready for dialogue on the basis of equality, respect for international law, and national sovereignty .

On this occasion, Ambassador Rogelio Polanco Fuentes conveyed the gratitude of the Party, State, and people of Cuba to the Party, State, and people of Vietnam for their consistent and strong support for efforts toward normalizing Cuba-US relations, and called on the United States to lift the embargo against Cuba in accordance with relevant resolutions of the United Nations General Assembly, for the legitimate interests of the Cuban people, and for peace , stability, cooperation, and development in the Americas and the world.

Ambassador Rogelio Polanco Fuentes emphasized that Vietnam has demonstrated solidarity with the Cuban people not only in material terms but also in political and humanitarian aspects. Recently, the Vietnam Red Cross Society, along with other Vietnamese political and social organizations, launched a campaign to support the Cuban people with the theme "65 Years of Vietnam-Cuba Friendship," within the framework of the "Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Year 2025," commemorating the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries (1960-2025).
