The renowned travel magazine Time Out has just published its list of the 50 best cities in the world for 2025.
Ranked 21st on the list, Hanoi is described as having a relatively mild climate with four distinct seasons, and as the cradle of Vietnamese culture. It is also the birthplace of many of the country's most famous poets, artists, and thinkers, along with iconic dishes.
While strolling through the Old Quarter, visitors will easily encounter the aroma of charcoal-grilled meat at the bun cha (grilled pork with vermicelli) stalls on Hang Quat Street or the bubbling broth from the pho (Vietnamese noodle soup) stalls on Hang Trong Street.
Around Hoan Kiem Lake, visitors can admire a series of famous and iconic landmarks of the capital such as the Grand Opera House, the Grand Cathedral… alongside small cafes hidden in narrow alleys or in old houses.
The ranking also honored Hanoi as one of the most upscale and sophisticated culinary destinations, with three restaurants receiving the prestigious Michelin star in 2023.
In addition, according to a survey by Time Out, Hanoi also ranks fourth in terms of cost of living, with 89% of respondents saying that the amount they spend on a cup of coffee or a movie night is very reasonable.
