Mr. Tran The Cuong, Director of the Department of Education and Social Affairs, said that the Department had just held a workshop related to the issue of the 10th grade high school exam in 2025. To help parents and students prepare early, around the end of August, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training will announce the sample exam for the 10th grade high school entrance exam, instead of announcing it around the end of March like every year.
Regarding the specifics of the 2025 high school entrance exam in Hanoi, including the number of subjects and whether there will be combined subject exams, the Director of the Department of Education and Training stated that specific details cannot be announced yet, but the approach will be to calculate what is most suitable for students.
The Hanoi 10th grade high school exam has attracted the attention of thousands of parents. Parents are especially anxious because 2025 is the first year students will take the exam under the new program (2018 General Education Program).

In previous years, Hanoi decided to test 3 subjects including: math, literature, foreign language and a fourth subject, if any, would be announced later. Thus, students will focus on studying the subjects they already know, but with the new program, there are many differences, especially the addition of integrated subjects of natural sciences (KHTN), history - geography, so it is difficult to imagine the exam plan.
On online forums, many parents whose children are about to take the 10th grade entrance exam are worried and speculating about the exam format. Some parents even start looking for extra tutoring classes for their children in combined subjects as early as 8th grade, in preparation for the upcoming 10th grade high school entrance exam.
Many people think that the Ministry of Education and Training and the Department of Education and Training should have early instructions, and should not let parents and students wait anxiously for exam plans before it is too late.
In Hanoi's 2024 10th grade entrance exam, 117,361 candidates participated. Of these, approximately 106,000 candidates registered for non-specialized 10th grade classes as their first choice.
Five candidates achieved a score of 48. Six candidates achieved a score of 47.75; 28 candidates scored 47.5; 21 candidates scored 47.25; and 58 candidates scored 47.
A total of 1,925 candidates scored 45 points or more, an average of 9 points/subject.
From the 44 point mark and above, there are 4,944 candidates passing.
From the 43-point mark and above, 9,718 candidates achieved the required score.
From the 42-point mark and above, 15,663 candidates achieved the required score.
From the 41 point mark and above, there were 22,284 candidates passing.
From the 40-point mark and above, 29,130 candidates passed. This number accounts for about 39.5% of the total target of 119 public high schools (not including autonomous and jointly managed public schools).
In other words, the number of candidates scoring 40 points or higher in the Hanoi public high school entrance exam accounts for nearly one-third of the city's enrollment quota.
In 2024, Hanoi assigned enrollment targets for 10th grade to 119 public high schools, aiming to enroll 1,657 new classes and 73,695 students.
Of these, 4 specialized schools and those with specialized classes will enroll 82 new classes and 2,970 students.
Eight autonomous public high schools will enroll 85 new classes and 3,555 students.
The total enrollment quota is 77,250 students. Compared to 2023, the total quota has increased by more than 1,500 students.
In addition, Hanoi also has 4 specialized high schools affiliated with universities, which increases the number of public school places available in the entire city to approximately 81,000.
