Two people died from drowning suspected to be related to cockfighting betting

At approximately 11:00 AM on May 17th, residents of Dien Hoa village, Nghia Dien commune, Tu Nghia district, Quang Ngai province, discovered the body of a man floating on the Bau Co River. They reported the incident to the authorities, who then recovered the victim's body.

At 4 PM the same day, local residents discovered the body of another male victim in the same section of the river. Verification revealed the two victims to be Le Xuan Thuc, 34 years old, residing in Nghia Dien commune, and Le Hoang Duc, 39 years old, residing in Nghia Lo ward, Quang Ngai city. The bodies of the victims have now been returned to their families for funeral arrangements.

According to local residents, at noon on May 17th, the Nghia Dien commune police conducted an inspection of a suspected illegal cockfighting ring in an acacia plantation in Dien Hoa village. Upon spotting the authorities, about a dozen people fled, some running towards the Bau Co River.

At the scene, the police seized numerous items related to the organization of illegal cockfighting for money. Many believe that the two victims may have been involved with the group organizing the cockfight, who fled and drowned while swimming across the river.

The incident is currently under investigation by the authorities.
