Hamas forces in the Gaza Strip have accused Israel of violating the ceasefire agreement, after Israel unexpectedly blocked supplies from entering Gaza in an attempt to exert pressure.
Trucks carrying humanitarian aid move through the city of Rafah in the Gaza Strip on February 16.
AFP reported on March 2nd, citing a statement from Hamas forces in the Gaza Strip, that Israel's blocking of supplies and aid into the territory was a "war crime" and a violation of the ceasefire agreement.
This group used harsh language to criticize Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's decision to suspend humanitarian aid in Gaza.
"This decision complicates the issue and affects the negotiation process," Reuters quoted senior Hamas official Sami Abu Zuhri as saying.
Hamas called on negotiators to force Israel to end sanctions against the Gaza Strip.
Earlier, on March 2, the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu unexpectedly announced that Israel would block all goods and aid from entering the Gaza Strip, citing Hamas's refusal to extend phase 1 of the ceasefire agreement.
The statement said Prime Minister Netanyahu decided to implement the measure from the morning of March 2nd, after phase 1 of the agreement ended the day before.
"Israel will not allow a ceasefire without the release of our hostages," the statement said, threatening "further consequences" if Hamas continues to refuse the proposal.
According to senior Hamas member Mahmoud Mardawi, the only way to achieve stability is to complete phase 2 of the previously outlined ceasefire framework agreement.
Analysts suggest that Israel wants to extend phase 1 to bring home more hostages, while Hamas wants to move to phase 2 because that phase includes a clause for Israel to withdraw its troops from Gaza and end hostilities.
According to the Haaretz newspaper, protests on March 2nd broke out in front of the homes of several Israeli ministers, calling for a ceasefire and continued negotiations to bring Israeli hostages home.
Protesters reportedly gathered outside the homes of Foreign Minister Gideon Saar, Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology Gila Gamliel, Minister of Transport and Road Safety Miri Regev, Minister of Strategic Affairs Ron Dermer, and Minister of Interior Moshe Arbel.
